I have flown several times with my tripod in its bag as a carry on - no problem. I have even had 2 tripods in the same bag with no issues.

Varies depending on vehicle and 1/2 or full day -- 2 passenger tomcar for 4 hrs. is $198 + tax, etc., 8 hrs.=$298. Here is their website: http://sedonaoffroadcenter.com/

You can also rent a "tom car" and drive the trails yourself! We did this on Christmas Eve 2012 and it was awesome! It was snowing at the top of the mountains - and cold in the open car - but SO worth it for the views! By having your own vehicle you can stop and take pics wherever you want. The place we rented was just on the edge of town - Sedona Off Road Center.

Thanksgiving should be cool but nice. We are also heading there for Thanksgiving week.

We were there at Christmas a few years ago - ranged from 30's to 50's! Can't wait to go back! We have a timeshare there and it's just a beautiful town. You will be AMAZED at the beautiful landscapes. See some on my website at www.meredithimages.com > galleries > southwest (page 4 has some Sedona).

If you have time go to Out of Africa - great photo ops of big cats! (check their website). Verde Valley Railroad is very scenic.

Enjoy!

My question would be WHY you would want to change RAW files to JPEG's? The purpose of having a RAW file is to capture all of the data in the scene. By changing to JPEG you will be throwing away some of the data just like if you shot JPEG in camera.

I have the Tamron 150-500 - LOVE IT! When using it at the longer focal lengths you definitely need to be on a tripod (true for any lens) to get the sharpest shots. I've used it handheld for short (very short) amounts of time, but 99% of the time I'm on a tripod with it. From what I hear the 150-600 is on back order pretty much everywhere though!

Hi Barb, I agree with the others - if your computer is freezing you need to be sure it isn't a computer space issue before installing Elements 12. And yes you can have both installed. You will need to "install" your Nik suite to direct it to 12 (check the Nik/Google website for instructions). The newest version of Elements usually comes out late Sept./early Oct. each year as well. :-)

SmugMug is designed more for "pro" photographers who need a good gallery set-up for their customers. I've had it for several years (pro version so I have a shopping cart). It works well for events and things like that.

I have my website link to my SmugMug galleries (so my domain name shows and not SmugMug in the gallery titles).

SmugMug is not designed to be a place that people look specifically to buy (like 500px) - you need to have your own avenue of advertising your galleries.

My guess is that the issue is Windows 8. Elements 10 is an older version (they are on 12 now and 13 should be coming out this fall), so they may not be totally compatible.

Camera clubs are a great way to meet friends who share your love of photography and to learn from each other. I do many seminars at (and belong to several) camera clubs. Elements will do everything you need to do. Lightroom is great, but Elements can do layers and masking that LR cannot (and there are times that masking will come in handy). :-)

Hi Ruth - I teach Photoshop Elements. I'm in Connecticut but I do travel - I've done a couple of workshops on Long Island. Elements 3 is a VERY old version. I know you feel best to learn that first, but Elements is on version 12 right now (they come out with a new one every year in the fall), and the newer versions have MANY more features that I think you would benefit from. If you'd like to talk more, please message me your phone number or email me at Hazel@MeredithImages.com. :-)

I mentioned this on another post about CC.

Your actual photo files are stored on your hard drive wherever you put them. All of these programs are creating a DIRECTORY creating a path to those files. Each program creates it's own directory or path to the files.

The physical files are NOT in Lightroom, Photoshop or any other program, they are on your hard drive.

Hope that helps!

I have used Elements since version 2 (been teaching the past 6 years). My work is going towards more creative endeavors, and I decided I needed some of the tools that CS/CC have that Elements does not (pen tool and a few others). SO...I took the plunge and joined the Creative Cloud. I figure I spend $10 a month on dumber things than that! I do like that you'll be able to get all upgrades as well. I also use Lightroom.

A comment was made about not trusting your images to the cloud -- your photos are still stored on your hard drive of choice unless you CHOOSE to put them on the cloud. The cloud software is only for processing those images, not storing them. Lightroom is only a DIRECTORY of where your images are, not where they are stored!
