Really? You cannot come up with something original like your own thoughts?

Seriously? You're criticising the OP for passing along an interesting quote? I, for many more than one, appreciated seeing it.

Separating focus and exposure is extremely important to me. I wish there was another way to set both separately without having to hold a half press.

Here's a simpler way to teach safe following distance. It's the same no matter what your speed.

Watch the car in front pass some point you can keep your eye on (a road sign, crack or flaw in the road, etc.) and then count slowly "one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three." If your car does not pass the identified point by then you're at a safe following distance.

I read something last year that nine and three is safer than 10 and two. Can’t remember the source.

Years ago I taught my daughters how to drive. Now my last grandchild will be learning very soon. An important number I teach is 1.47, rounded off to 1.5. That is the distance the car travels in fps when multiplied by mph: i.e., 20 mph = 30 fps.
So, consider 70 mph, or 105 fps and the fact that it takes a minimum of 1/3 or a second to recognize that a problem is in front of you. That’s two car lengths before you initiate any action.
You can fill in the rest, city or interstate.

River cruises are, by far, our favorite way to travel. I'd just add to what others have said that you should be aware that the main portions of the trip will include the boat traveling while you sleep. You'll wake up in another fantastic place and you'll spend most of your time ashore. The 18-140mm will be good for those days.
There will be a couple of days when you will cruise during the day which is when you may want longer reach than a 140mm. A 1.4x or 2x teleconverter would be a good addition to your bag.

I like!
Reminds me of a scene of the entrance(s) to the Pearly Gates. One gate had a sign over it reading "For hen-pecked husbands." The line there was miles long, disappearing into the next cloud. The second gate's sign read, "For not hen-pecked husbands" and there was one lone man standing there. A man from the first line called over to the lone man, asking "What are you doing over there?" The lone man replied, "I don't know. My wife told me to stand here."

A quick thought to add to others' excellent ones: Shooting at f/2.8 is the opposite of what you probably should do. It's much harder to obtain sharp focus at larger apertures (lower f/ numbers) than at smaller apertures like f/16.

I recently had to purchase a new printer. When I spoke with Canon, they actually did NOT recommend the ones with tanks for photo printing. I thought tanks were a really good idea, and cheaper than cartridges.

Same problem with the Epson tank printers - print quality not nearly as good as the regular inkjets. I had one and sent it back. They still do not make a tank printer with comparable print quality for photos.

I have been using a DELL XPS Laptop with a 4K touch screen for the last 2 years . It has worked on PS and LR fine. I bought a Bamboo pen and use it on occasion for fine work. I also use fingers for some of the menus along with the touchpad.

I've had the same experience with the same laptop.

In part it’s the magnification. A little tiny, short star trail will look a lot bigger and longer in your 500mm.

I write agree Jerry, but you got the name of that awful feature wrong. It is called "GD Autocorrect." 😅

I have autocorrect on my phone and Kindles. Unfortunately, autocorrect doesn't usually know what I want to say, and I have to keep going back and correcting the mistakes it makes. With it turned off, typing on devices is much easier. I still get suggested words popping up, and that speeds up typing.

Don McLean’s song was a tribute to all three who died in that plane crash: Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens. Frugality prevented there being one more person on that flight. A seat was available to another passenger, who turned it down, refusing to pay more money for a short plane ride, than his parents paid in monthly rent on their Bronx apartment. That other person was Dion DeMucci, lead singer of the Belmonts.
