The main reason that I went to Farmington Bay last week was to check on the heron nesting at the Eccles Wildlife Education Center. Our local power company, Rocky Mountain Power, has installed nine long poles with platforms to allow the GBH a place to nest safe from land based predators. As you can see in #1, the pricy high-level spots have already been taken.

Mating and hatching are well under way as seen in #3.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

How interesting, and what a great project that RMP has undertaken. It is good to know that our birds and wildlife have gained the interest of "big corporations."

Good to see these images.

Apparently you never read the rules for the Photo Gallery.

Photo Gallery Section

This section is for posting pictures you took. If you want to ask others to comment on your choice of subjects, composition, settings, show off your pictures to others, or ask for general critique, then please do so in the Photo Gallery section.

In other words, if someone wants your opinion about their photo they should ask for it.

You can add a line to your signature that says "Advice Welcome"

Apparantly you assume I have not read the rules. I responded to the comment that most people here are over 70. and yes I took that to say once you reach that magic age you don't want to learn anymore. I am one who feels if ever I get to the point where I don't want to improve anything I will be in my box. I know from experience that there are folks of all ages and disciplines who have no interest in improving, However we should never generalize on an age.

When I taught photography, I had my students bring in their work on slides after I gave an assignment, then I would put the slide up on the screen. I would always give a positive, sometimes it was difficult, but after some positives I would give some suggestions on how to make the image better.
I had some students who elected not to bring any images in, and that was OK, they learned from watching others images.

Your way of critiques, positive first then suggestions for improvement, the best way to learn. There will always be those who learn by looking at the work of others. Unfortunately there are those who think they know and are not open to the views or opinions of others. Nothing can be done about them.

I agree if you want critiques ask for the, but don't assume most here on UHH are over 70 and don't want critiques or improve.

I don't share your philosophy,
I share Linda's.

That is your prerogative.

So those of us who are over seventy shouldn't be concerned about improving our photography. Shouldn't want or ask for constructive critiques?

Rick, your topic is well meaning, not a rant at all. However, you're starting with the wrong assumption.

Photo Gallery is primarily a social sharing site. The majority of UHH users are over 70 years old.
Those who wish to "improve" (the meaning will be different for everyone) will ask for help.

Regarding where you can post photos, there are dozens of under-utilized volunteer-managed sections. Anyone unfamiliar should go to "all sections" at the bottom of this page. Subscribe to those of interest, and participate!

I frequent Landscape section and Black and White. And I always encourage feedback I also co-manage Digital Artistry, where we are open to constructive suggestions and opinions.

A note about Photo Analysis. The guidelines, written by Admin, are very specific as to that section's purpose. Folks who want to post there should read that pinned doc first. Otherwise, Admin will just move them to Gallery.

I find your first comment extremely condescending, as a well over 70 year old, I am constantly practicing to improve my photography, as are the majority of our club members. Even our expert photographers say they want constructive critiques. We attend training sessions, workshops field trips and request constructive feedback all with the intention of improving our photography. We have noticed it is the younger members who don't like being told anything negative.

It us helpful when there are backstories with the images. Along with settings and sometimes tips.

I do tend to pass by the images that really need work when they appear, and also tend to follow those photographers whose work I like.

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is located where the Bear River joins the Great Salt Lake in northern Utah. It is home to 67 species and 210 species use it in their migrations. The 80,000 acre site has a 12-mile auto loop that circles the major marsh area.

This set shows the birds that I encountered on my way to the entrance for the auto loop.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

I'm now finding birds everywhere. And, I'm actually attempting to shoot them instead of just looking at them and listening to them! Here are a couple I found in Ecuador.

Do any of you birders know what the 3rd one is? He's rather large.

Nice shot, can't help to ID. Sorry to tell you, once you once you start shooting them it is very difficult to go on to something else. Enjoy

That's what I was thinking. Yeah, great shots!
The problem there is that the Ferruginous is slightly larger than the Red Tailed. Maybe a juvenile? One of my guide books points out an extended gape (mouth) for the Ferruginous which is evident on download with these photos.

Do not believe it is a Ferruginous Hawk, which does not have bands on the tail feathers and has tail feathers that are much more rounded than the Red Tail hawk. However I am still not sure it is a Red Tail.
