Wow, some really fantastic replies that I truly appreciate. Lots of food for thought. Yes, I’m looking at the Z6 II as it’s on sale until 03/03/2024 but didn’t know of the possibility of a Z6 III. I’m planning on giving my D7200 to my grandson and I have three lenses for it so perhaps using the Z adapter isn’t the best option for me. That’s why I posted the question and I now have some great information. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. Now to figure out what to do!!!

Attempting to go from Nikon D7200 to Nikon Z6 and totally confused about what I’ve been told. Person at Photo shop says i absolutely cannot use my current Nikon DX lens on the Z6. Others say i can use them with the Z mount attachment but i will lose resolution and it will be cropped differently. So, what’s the truth?

This whole family is extremely talented. They go to the same church I do and the Mom sings practically every week. Mom and son sang this last Sunday and he is very talented also. Darcy is amazing.

OK, I have seen various posts on shutter counts and finding out how to check your count and I just assumed this held true for all cameras, but now i'm told that it's only important for digital cameras. Is that true and why?

Just wondering about David Busch or Darrel Young's photography books on the D7200. Have looked at David Busch's rendition but understand Darrel Young's is not out yet. Generally though is there much difference between these two authors with respect to content, etc on the books they have written? Who would you prefer? Thanks for any input.

Thank you all for the responses. It has helped me to understand what I need to do and that is to move on and update my equipment. Now for deciding what to buy but I am leaning toward the Nikon D7200 only because I have read some good things about it and it's within budget. But as you can tell, I never jump right into anything without some proper research and thought, so that's what I will do before proceeding. This will be the last camera I buy so I want to do it right. Have a great day!

Thanks I also suspected it died but couldn't understand just why it works in auto and scene mode. trying to convince myself not to upgrade but I think this seals the deal! Nikon d7200 is on the list. I'll try the suggestion on the exposures shown in auto and try manual mode to see what happens there. as usual, I appreciate the expert advice I get on this forum.

Have an Olympus E Volt 500 which is about 10 years old. Took my granddaughter to shoot some wild horses and when i used anything except Automatic, i got nothing but dark pictures. Tried Aperture priority and Shutter speed priority and got nothing. It worked on Automatic and Scene mode, but that's it. Help me to know what to do!! Thanks.

Have you tried pulling the lens off and cleaning the contacts? Have you tried a different lens?

I have an Olympus E-500 and recently when I put it in Aperture mode, it won't let me set the aperture. I have corresponded with Olympus on this by email and they advise that this is not a known problem. Before I call them to discuss would anyone have any ideas of what to try? Shutter Priority works just fine.

Even your apology is left- handed. In the immortal words of Herman Edwards to NFL Rookie Orientation... "DON"T HIT SEND!"

Djacks, some folks will only buy refurb. Sometimes they were open box store display models. Sometimes, they are orders where people received, didn't like and returned for another type of camera, never used in the field. I know my D7100 was a refurb thru Amazon and only had 24 shutter actuations on it when I received.

I like to think of them like a certified pre-owned BMW or Lexus. Still a fine car that will drive several thousand miles, many times over with no issues at all.

Thanks, I was really just trying to find out what people's experience with buying refurbished was and I truly thought this was what this forum is for, to ask questions. I have gotten a lot of great responses and I appreciate all of them.

Thank you young Djacks My reply was obviously tongue in cheek and meant to make you smile.
I knew you would get all the "normal" replies you could ever need and I do not do normal. One word re further posts this is actually a photography site so its meant for posting pictures as I see it. You will notice that many who pontificate about gear either do not or rarely post a photograph? Then look at their profile and you see they have a huge collection of cameras and lenses and are very proud of the fact it seems. Why? Cos I think they sit around all day polishing their collection rather than get out and shoot.
Now ol' Billy struts his stuff with a very old very battered Pentax with a kit lens, take note here I do not call myself Pentaxman or Pentak23 or Pentaxshooter etc, I take around 500 photos each week and post on here very regularly. Many my friend talk the talk but fail to walk the walk.
So good luck with your purchase and i wish nothing but happiness and a long life together for you and your new camera. If you really want to drag all the turkeys out of the hen house post "Should I buy a Nikon 7100 or a Canon 5d Mark 3. You start em off and I'll return to mock em!!

Very pleased to make your acquaintance my man
