I have pretty much always used 32g cards. Big enough.
I use a full frame Canon R6 so the files are pretty big.
It brings me in around 1,000 frames.
Generally on a 2 week travel vacation I will pretty much fill a card and sometimes I'll use 2 camera so 32g each.

I did manage to fill 4 cards on a recent to Iceland... never before more than 2.
After a trip I'll generally save the cards and file them.
Locally I'll erase and reuse the cards.

I see but can't really grasp using a giant card... 256g, more?
Why?

Anyway,
What does everybody think on this?

I use 64gb cards. I'd hate to lose all the images on a 256gb if it got corrupted. I also keep & file my cards. I only take photos for myself and my family so I don't have big back-up storage. (I probably should.) I was recently gone for a month to Britain and Ireland, and that included an 8 day photo workshop in Scotland. Didn't quite fill up 2 64gb cards shooting RAW. I did use my iphone 13 Pro Max a good bit because I am trying to decide if I can leave the big camera & lenses home on the next trip. I now have an iphone 15 Pro Max but still not sure if I can go without the Sony mirrorless. Lo

Have you looked for any photography sites that cater to younger people?

Since they are not looking for you, you need to look outside of UHH for younger people. If you do make a connection and introduce them to UHH, you will be able to show them what they have to look forward to. Maybe in 30 or 40 years they will decide that UHH is where they want to be.

My wife and I recently returned from a two week trip to Scotland. We stayed with life long friends we made 50 years ago when I was stationed at a Naval Security Group Activity near the small town of Edzell. During our last trip, we traveled to the west of Scotland but this time we remained in the eastern part of the country where our friends live in the town of Letham, very near Forfar. I shot this image with a D7200 and 18-300mm lens as we drove through the hills near the town of Peebles in the Borders region south of Edinburgh. PP was limited to eliminating some of the shadowing of the heather in the hills. As you can see the weather was beautiful.

I was there for a photo workshop at the end of May & my husband and friends joined me after my trip. My husband had also been stationed in Edzell, 50+ yrs ago. (He was an O Brancher named Al Kress in case you might have known him.) So jealous you get to see the heather blooming. We did much of Great Britain and Ireland & I happily went back to Scotland with them. I want to take my son and daughter-in-law one of these days before I'm too old to do all the walking. (As much as 7 miles/day can be hard on the 70+ year old body.) Would love to see more of your photos. Regards, Lo Sitton

Rotorhead, you have some good responses here regarding LRC. It is really, really is worth the upgrade. Let's focus on "organizing" as you mentioned. Regardless of the software you select, without an organization plan you will not improve over your current situation. I use a modified Kelby system that supports 6 super folders with numerous subfolders for my 60,000 images. I like the visual aspect of it as well as the technical capabilities. Example - one super folder is Family and under Family is Christmas followed by Christmas 2019 (C:\My Lightroom Images\Family\Christmas\Christmas 2019). Now using LRC, I can ask for images with Uncle Bill and not Aunt May (she has been blackballed by the family) and it will instantly produce from the Christmas folders if so directed.

LRC organization is folders, collections, key words, "pick", color code, numerical code, metadata and who knows what else. Do you want images from a certain lens?

If you are interested, I will be teaching two Zoom refresher classes in late July on LRC organization. The refresher class is a prelim to the in-class image processing in the Develop Module for the month of August. I can give you free access to Zoom classes.

Hi
I will be flying to Las Vegas next week ,carrying my D800 DSLR
Not sure if I can carry the camera batteries as carry on or should I put in the suitcase that I will be checking in as luggage. It's United to LV then Spirit return to EWR
Thanks
Sastry Karra

Do not pack in checked luggage. Carry on board in your roll-aboard or your personal item. This has been my experience. Lo

But now . . . ?

This old house seems like a typical story: a relatively small farm, the owners die or move away, and the farm gets purchased by a bigger farmer who incorporates it into his other land. Someone will probably get around to razing this remaining building someday. It sits northeast of Elwood, Indiana.

What a shame! Nice shot, though. Lo

This cormorant appears to be practicing its songbird imitation for the upcoming Audobon's Has Talent contest. In reality, the bird was probably trying to dislodge a fishbone or something else it swallowed. Enjoy.

Jordan dam, NC. The eagle-watching capital of North Carolina?

At the location where we can get closest to the eagles, one bank of the (Haw) river flowing from the dam where the eagles hang out in the opposite bank, there are too many trees in the background. Good bokeh at f/5.6 helps a bit.

Nikon D500, 300mm f/4 + TC 1.4iii.

Comments and critiques most welcome.
