It hasn't gotten any easier for me, in fact I think my grief is worst than ever. Here is something I heard on TV yesterday: "grief is the cost of love".

I have been trying out Luminar AI and comparing it with Photoshop Elements for processing some of my older RAW photos. The first image is of New Zealand's Milford Sound with Luminar AI processing. The second image has been processed with Elements and the third is the same photo with no PP. I like the AI PP best but the Elements PP is a close second. The Luminar AI processing was somewhat faster than the Elements processing.

A few photos of Georgia O'Keeffe's house in Ghost Ranch New Mexico along with photos of scenery seen in the vicinity. Ghost Ranch is about 1 hour drive north of Santa Fe which is about 1 hour drive north of Albuquerque. O'Keeffe painted some of her very famous paintings while living in this house. The house itself is not open to the public but her other house in nearby Abiqu is although reservations are limited and sometime fill up in peak tourist season.

This is a cute little lighthouse located on a tiny island in Crescent City, CA. Well it’s not really an island, its an island at high tide but not at low tide. It was one of the first lighthouses to become operational (1856) along the California coast and is still operational today, including a full-time keeper. However, it’s only classified as a private aid to navigation and is no longer part of the Coast Guard navigational infrastructure. Some of the walls of the lighthouse are about 2’ thick in order to withstand the ravages of Pacific winter storms. It even survived the 20’ tsunami cause by the 1964 Alaska earthquake while much of Crescent City didn’t.

Some even consider this little lighthouse haunted. Three ghosts, two adults and one child, live in the lighthouse according to ghost hunters. Or so the story goes according to the resident staff.

This photo was taken from the breakwater just SE of the lighthouse. This image was captured late afternoon and about 5 minutes before that background fog bank swept in soaking everything. When I took the image it was a cool afternoon and you could watch seagulls flying around and little sandpipers running around on the sand. The fog horns at the end of the breakwater announced their presence with long deep blasts ever few seconds. The nose was treated with the smell of the cool salty sea air and floating seaweed along the rocks. However, once the fog arrived, it was time to scurry back to the protection of the car to dry off.

I submitted the unedited original the FYC section and got some great editing ideas from some very talented people there. Attached is the edit that conveys the ambiance I felt at the time the picture was taken. Hope you enjoy.

As always, I would appreciate any critique, suggestions or examples of how you might improve this image.

Mike, While I heartily agree with the comments of the other reviewers I must also congratulate you on a most interesting short history and very well written description of the scene as you experienced it.

I'd like to thank all the UHHers who posted comments regarding my question on OMD 10 II vs OMD 1 II. I learned a lot from your comments and was mildly entertained by the little spat that ensued. I'll stick with my OMD 10 II for now. I use it primarily for travel and family events with occassional landscapes/scenery and I seem to get results that are satisfactory to me. However, I still have a lot to learn about using it.

Aloha,

I own both cameras — only Mark I versions. I dont see any difference in image quality. the EM 1 has more buttons and a better grip. It is easier to change settings on the EM1.

"Average" covers a lot, and purchasing new equipment will not make you a better photographer. I could only find one photo of yours on UHH (January 2017 sunset). I wouldn't have expected that much noise - apparent noise I should say, because maybe that's not what is - so I'm wondering if the image was significantly underexposed and you tried to lighten too much when editing?

Here is one of many sites that compares the two cameras:
https://www.ephotozine.com/article/olympus-om-d-e-m10-mark-ii-vs-olympus-om-d-e-m10-28012

The first two photos below were shot in jpg and have slight editing, using the EM10 and Olympus M.Zuiko Digital Ed 75-300mm lens. I was trying out the 2x digital zoom function, making these equivalent 600 mm angle of view (I think#2 is slightly cropped, as well).

Mostly I shoot in raw (see #3 below) and edit, though I'm only average with PS Elements. I have found that the EM 10 does not enjoy high ISO combined with low light, but for the majority of my photography, I have been extremely happy with the 10, which I purchased slightly used a bit over a year ago.

I have read with interest the replies addressing LR vs PSE. I have been using PSE 14 for a couple of years to edit my Raw photos and have usually been satisfied with the result. However, I keep wondering if I would be more satisfied if I used LR for the editing. Ignoring the question of organizing and 16 bit vs 8 bit, is there anything that LR can do that PSE can't do? BTW, I am by no means expert in PSE and I usually have Scott Kelby's book on PSE 14 handy when I'm doing my editing.

I will be traveling to Kauai in a couple of weeks. My research indicates multiple locations for photo opportunities, however, I will be there only six days. What would be the top five places for photos in Kauai. I am also planning an open door helicopter adventure. Need some help in settings (Rebel 6Ti) and any tips to enhance experience. Thanks in advance for your help.

I live on Kauai and am happy to offer a couple of suggestions. Stop in Costco in Lihue and buy the Ultimate Kauai Guide Book (or better, buy it at home before you leave). It is loaded with great advice. Although the entire island is very scenic, if you want great ocean and beach scenery the north shore can't be beat. The lighthouse in Kilauea offers some of the most spectacular ocean/seascapes imaginable as well as opportunities to photograph great sea birds (it is part of the Kilauea Point National Wild Life Refuge). All the other replies you received were great but be careful if you decide to do Queens Bath. First, if it has been raining (which happens a lot on the norht shore) the steep dirt path down to the ocean can be quite slippery and treacherous. However, even potentially more dangerous is the whole Queens Bath area if there is a large winter swell running (we are just getting into the winter swell time of year on the north shore). Winter swells can sweep across the whole shelf area of the baths and every winter several visitors get swept out into the ocean. There have been many drowings as a result. The north shore drive to the end of the road to Kee Beach is a very pretty and scenic drive. There are many great photo oportunities along this country road. The Limahuli Tropical Botanical Gardens near the end of the road is both interesting and very scenic. It is a good place to photograph many of Kauai's native and endemic plants and flowers as well as some spectacular mountain scenery. Have fun and come back.

SanDisk's 1TB SD card has more storage than your laptop

SanDisk has unveiled the biggest SD card in the world — a prototype card with an outrageous 1 terabyte of memory. The SDXC card is only a prototype at this point, with no details available on price or release date, but it's still an impressive milestone. As SanDisk owners Western Digital points out, it was only 16 years ago that the company introduced its first 64 megabyte SD card, while two years ago they debuted the 512GB card, which was then the world's biggest. Things have moved fast, though, and compared to the 64MB card, today's 1TB version offers 16,384 times more storage.

The company says the 1TB card is necessary to match the increasing demand for memory-heavy formats, including 4K and 8K footage, 360-degree video and VR. However, there will be some downsides. The 1TB card is certain to be prohibitively expensive, and at such a large capacity, read and write speeds are going to be comparatively slow. Plus, if you're working with a 1TB card there's always the danger you'll have too much space and forget to ever switch cards. Now imagine the anguish if your 1TB card corrupts and you lose everything on it...

Hello Photography Enthusiasts. I have just taken some very nice photos along the Atlantic beaches, and am seeking your advice on exposure correction. I got some group photos in the late afternoon, camera facing east towards the ocean, people facing west, and the exposure of the family group is perfect. However, the horizon is nearly lost, and the blue sky looks nearly white. I can correct the background with Elements 14, but then the skin tones change and look unnatural. Elements actually does a good job restoring the color to the background, using the "lighting" tool. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Jim,
A suggestion: instead of using the "lighting" tool try "painting" the sky area of the photo with the "Smart Brush". Select "Blue Skies" in the tool options box in the bottom panel after clicking on the "Smart Brush" in the left side panel. Once the sky looks better go to Layers and click on Flatten Image to finish. I have have often had good results with this technique but not always. It's worth a try.
Good luck!
