SanDisk's 1TB SD card has more storage than your laptop
http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/9/20/12986234/biggest-sd-card-1-terabyte-sandisk

SanDisk has unveiled the biggest SD card in the world — a prototype card with an outrageous 1 terabyte of memory. The SDXC card is only a prototype at this point, with no details available on price or release date, but it's still an impressive milestone. As SanDisk owners Western Digital points out, it was only 16 years ago that the company introduced its first 64 megabyte SD card, while two years ago they debuted the 512GB card, which was then the world's biggest. Things have moved fast, though, and compared to the 64MB card, today's 1TB version offers 16,384 times more storage.

The company says the 1TB card is necessary to match the increasing demand for memory-heavy formats, including 4K and 8K footage, 360-degree video and VR. However, there will be some downsides. The 1TB card is certain to be prohibitively expensive, and at such a large capacity, read and write speeds are going to be comparatively slow. Plus, if you're working with a 1TB card there's always the danger you'll have too much space and forget to ever switch cards. Now imagine the anguish if your 1TB card corrupts and you lose everything on it...

This ought to make the machine-gun shooters really happy, since they're not really photographers anyway. At least now they stand an even better chance of getting 1 out of 1000 shots that are keepers. Woo-Hoo!

Ah- but don't forget, most DSLRs shoot video now as well.
And nothing burns through storage like 1080p video @ 60fps...

For sports or event photographers, or when taking gobs of professional quality 4K, and eventually 8K video, the extra space will eventually be needed as increasingly higher megapixel bodies becoming available. Are you suggesting that professional sports and events photographers are not real photographers? They shoot at 10-14 fps in order to get the money shot. When 100 mp cameras become common in a few years, with 125mb raw files, a 64 GB card will only hold around 512 images. Try to think past you own limited requirements. You are not the only one with a camera.

Well Carl, according to your standards, I must be one of them. I'd be happy to compare my keepers from any action sporting event to yours! Personally, I find my 64Gb and 128Gb XQD cards way more than adequate to cover a game with my D5. How about you?

That's today, of course. In a few years some of us will be shooting 100mp bodies with 125mb raw files. Our 64gb cards will quickly became a limiting factor.

With my Nikon F100 I get 4.5 fps and usually get a keeper out of that burst. Out of a 36 exposure roll I get 10-12 roughly. I don't usually shoot sports but when I do I watch the game and anticipate their moves. One bat hitting a ball is as good as another, same goes for the rest of the sports. That's the way I see it.

Well that explains a lot!!! Now I understand your point of you. Besides anything else, your keeper rate is not very good, and your attitude towards sports shooting is amateurish at best. Perhaps you're the one who is not a real photographer.

And then I'll buy bigger ones! The 128Gb variety are the largest I have and I only use those in my D5.

You know Carl, about 50 years ago, when I started in this profession, I loaded, processed and printed my own work. I used manual everything and my thumb was the motor drive. Today, with all the computer chips helping me, not only has my percentages of keepers increased significantly, but I now look for "THE" action shot at a game. Technology, and I, have come a long way forward. Believe me when I tell you that I realize while I'm shooting away out there, I am very cognizant of the fact that I will have to review all those shots after the game. My goal is not to fill my cards, but to get what is needed. There's a saying, "If you see it, you missed it" and that is very applicable to sports action shooting. Experience, some experimentation, and knowledge of the game and the players helps a good deal. Best of luck!

Your absolutely right about my amateurish attitude towards sports photography, be cause I couldn't care less about it, and thats my keeper rate for sports only. My normal keeper rate is somewhere 25 or better out of 36. A lot of the time it's over 30, just depends on what I'm doing. I shoot LF mostly and most of the time I only shoot 4-6 shots per day.

With th high burst rates of the newest cameras. every time you press the button you can rip off 10 or more shots. In a 3 hour game you would easliy make 3 or 4 thousand shots. In a 20 game football season that translates to 50or 60 thousand shots. Can that 1 TB card hold that much data.
