I have always had Macs, I loved itwhenthe supported their own APERATURE for editing. It wasn't a monstrous program like Photo Shop but it gave you enough good tools to edit. Now the photoshop that comes with it is ok or even the PREVIEW I use. But I did buy LUMINAR 4.
Now I am not sure that the Air that you have will support this software. So if it doesn't and your editing program is very basic, then YES the computer does matter.
I have purchased the Luminar 4. Jim Nix is super helpful. If you go on one of his tutorials, you can sign up (NO cost) and then there is a spot for comment/question below video. I have asked him numerous questions and he always responds. Try it.
A bit late here, I download from camera card directly into Photos program.
We did two weeks in Egypt and Petra, Jordan. I did not bring my 200-400 zoom, too heavy and not needed. The sites, i.e. pyramids, Karnak, Abu Simbel, etc. are so large!! I would have a telephoto that would cover 70-200 though. Enjoy, absolutely the best trip, and climb inside Cheops!!
Thank you all. It was my error, should have checked before posting the question, In going back to the info. for the photos, I noticed that these were shots taken on my husband's iPad, They are jpeg and my Canon remain in RAW. But thank you for your responses and I am going to look into Image Capture. I use that for webpages I want to copy but not sure on how to use it for photos coming in from a camera. But the RAW/jpeg issue is hopefully solved.
I do need to get a Luminar or Lightroom app into the computer and stop using the limited Photo program on my MAC. AGAIN, thanks one and all.
I transfer the photos from the iPad to the computer by selecting the pics then hitting the airdrop symbol, The iPad talks to my Mac computer and the photos go directly into my Photo program., No need for cards.
Thank you for that suggestion.
My error, when looking back at the info on various pics, I failed to see that some were airdropped from our iPad and those were the jpeg, Files in my photos program consist of photos from both. The Canon are indeed RAW but the iPad are jpegs. Quality from the iPad is so fabulous, should not have assumed they were from my Canon. thank you for your time.
My error, in looking back at the info on my photos, I noticed the jpeg had been taken on an iPad and not with my Canon. We airdropped some pics from the iPad and they were in the same file as the Canon. My apologies and thank you for your time.
I take RAW images on my Canon. When I download them into my photos program on my MacBook Pro, I find that they change to jpegs. How can I keep them in RAW where more quality exists for me to work with? Thank you
We did our Egypt and Jordan trip a few years ago, amazing. And we have the exact same camera. And the go-to lens of 28-135. I found it most useful. With another body, a Rebel ti1, I had a wide angle lens, a Canon 17-40 (not the truly widest I should have gotten). The pyramids, Abu Simbel, Ramses the Great's temple are so massive, you don't want to be cropping them or have to get so far back to get them into your photos. Also, be sure you have a polarizing filter on. Enjoy, an unforgettable trip.
Thank you to all for the valuable sources.
Thank you, have bought refurbished cameras from Canon and have been pleased; so why not a lens!!
I am not sure what you mean and which lens you are referring to in your reply when you say: "That focal length on a crop sensor body like your's will give you an 35mm equivalent angle of view of 136mm". Could you help me on that point????? My basic knowledge is lacking!! Thank you for helping me out one this point. Maybe I should not be looking for a prime lens but rather a lens that would offer me more flexibility.
