I am using the Mac trial of Luminar 4 and like the software so far. The major issue I am having - and the only reason I haven't purchased it - is at import, the photos on my SD card show up as Sony RAW files, not thumbnails. In every other program I've used and on the Luminar tutorials, the import window provides previews. I have searched, Googled, looked at YouTube videos and can't find the answer on how to have my photos show up as thumbnails. Any assistance is appreciated.

I am using it as a plugin to photoshop. It was free with my camera purchase from B&H. I have used it mainly for sky alterations and have no issues. When I use it, its with RAW files and it seems to work fine. I can recommend it as a PS plugin.

Thanks ImageCreator. It is my hope to use it as a stand-alone editor.

I tried it as a stand alone but found it cumbersome and didn't like it that much. Very easy thru PS.

Pretty sure that’s an option you can set in preferences. Someone else will chime in with precise instructions...

I am not overly fond of it as a stand-alone, but it’s a great plug-in for Lightroom. Using it so would solve your problem.

Go to the Library function in Luminar. Click the plus symbol to add a folder. You will get a drop down of a Finder window where you will highlight the folder that you wish to link to Luminar. The folder will then appear in Luminar. After you do that you can display the photos in the library either one per screen or multiples on the screen. The image files are NOT transferred to Luminar but rather are merely linked to Luminar. You can always see them in Finder. If you subsequently add images to that folder they will also be visible in Luminar

I have purchased the Luminar 4. Jim Nix is super helpful. If you go on one of his tutorials, you can sign up (NO cost) and then there is a spot for comment/question below video. I have asked him numerous questions and he always responds. Try it.

This works EXCEPT what i am seeing are the actual file names, not the images. I need to see the images to properly rate and sort.

Thanks Hillary. I’ll look into the Nix tutorials.

You should have imported a folder(s). In the Library module at the top of the screen in the menu bar the are two icons. One icon is single box and one is an icon of six small boxes. You should see one image or multiple images at once depending on which you choose. You can scroll down to see all your images in that folder.

Yes, there is a little learning curve but once you get it the program is easy to use.

You always email Skylum questions and they will reply usually the next day. There is no live chat or voice. There is also an on-line user guide

It sounds like you want the thumbnails to the left of the editing screen. If you go up to the top and look there will be a area with two buttons one for editing the picture and the other for editing all the pictures. If you set it to edit one picture you will see your thumbnails on the left. I hope this helps

There is no folder yet. The photos are still on the SD card. I am trying to IMPORT them, but can’t see the images. Just the file names.
