I have seen an advertisement that states that there is a device that will search my computer and collect all my photos (no matter where they are being stored) and will load all into this device for safe keeping. Can anyone give me information? Are there several brands of this device or is this just a waist of my time and money?
Use white with a simple frame. This is also used for water color paintings. This method shows off your work and not the mat and frame. Look in some art galleries for ideas.
However, you may want to frame/mat them to suit yourself to enjoy them. I just wish that I could take some photos worthy of framing.
While Decorators usually use mats that co-ordinate with colors in a room, artists co-ordinate mats with the colors in the painting/photo. For showing and selling, use white.
Novice Chris here. B-)
Gets my attention. Great shot. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for taking time to explain in such an unstandable manner for those of us who have been stuck in the "automatic" mode and who were unsuccessful in understanding the "triangle".
I am sure that although many of the "real photo people" find it boring, I sense that most are sincere in encouraging us novice to learn and enjoy the accomplishments of taking wonderful photos.
Thank you again Bob.
And thanks to all the HOGS who contribute to make us all much wiser in regard to the beauty that can be captured through the lens.

I have a 50mm that came with the camera. I have a Tamron 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 MACRO 67 A20ASPHERICAL. I'm reading what is on the zoom lens.
I don't have a macro lens and would like to capture individual snowflakes. I don't know what lens I need to accomplish this. (Nikon 7100)

Any one you have already will work, depending on what you mean by "photograph some snowflakes". Can you elaborate on what you have and what you want to accomplish?

I have a Nikon D7100. I would like to photograph some snowflakes. What lens do you guys recommend? (Without breaking the bank)
Thanks. Your advice is always good.

I agree with rplain that respondents often ask for the OP's budget. But here we have, yet again, someone who has posted a rant instead of a thoughtful question or observation that encourages positive conversation and learning/teaching photography. To quote someone yesterday in a similar-tone topic:
for what possible value or benefit other than to outdo other curmudgeons in a 'who's who of grumpy' competition.
As for cost of gear, on UHH I spent three years supporting the value of bridge cameras for those who were looking for lighter weight and less expensive. Some of my "proof" via the Canon SX50 ($375 at the time):

Your photoos are great. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, thank you Everyone.
It's refreshing to know that you posters REALLY want to help a novice like me. I know that I have to start somewhere and that you all have been where I am now. I will go for learning and experimenting with the triangle, view Utube tutorials and look into the recommended workshop videos. My husband and I were members of a photo guild but we were lost/intimidated by all the camera terms of all the experienced photographers. We never entered any photo contests at any level because the same people always won. I did analyze myself and found that my Auto photos weren't so bad after I edited them. However, I really want to make quality photos. So...I'm Jumping in again"
Thank you all for such good advice and for your unselfish sharing.

Thank you Chg Cannon and AndyH, I'm going to give your suggestions a try. Wish me luck... and patience.
I need to use my Nikon D7100 by learning how to use something other than AUTOMATIC mode. I see video e-books and DVD guides to teach this process. Can you recommend one over the other? Is this the approach to take?
Everyone here seems to know so much and I am in awe and sometimes in the dark on understanding what you are saying in regards to photography and camera settings. I'm not so bad at composition, but really would like to take better photo. I shoot RAW.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
He's really enjoying the TV. Don't you wonder what he's thinking?
Does anyone use the On1 Photo Editing? If so, what do you think about it compared to other editing programs?
I have LR6 but when I load photos into computer they go to my Mac Photo Library which has limited editing. I also have Elements 11.
Please comment on what is best to use and how that my photos will be loaded into LR6.
Thanks for any help.
