Side note: Del Toro wrote it as a retelling of the 1950 era B-movie Creature From the Black Lagoon (only with a happy ending).

Image quality is very subjective. I have a Sony 24-240mm that I use as my carry lens. I have a number of other lens that were purchased for a specific purpose ie portraits landscapes speed etc. check some reviews of all the lenses folks recommend then try to figure out what fits your needs and your budget. Good Luck!

According to the calculator on Lonelyspeck.com If I use a 14mm F2.8 with a 42mpx sensor (I have a Sony A7RII) and shoot manual I should be able to expose for about 9.1 secs. Longer if I want star trails.
My biggest concern is the vibrations from the ships engines. THOUGHTS?

Edit the ISO would 100 to 200

In a couple of months I'll be cruising the Virgin Islands, and I was thinking
of doing some shots of the night sky. A number of possible come to my mind
If I'm working from a tripod, do I turn off the image stabilizer? if so, how do
I deal with the movement of the ship even at slow speed?

I'm thinking I can probably deal with light pollution from the deck by
using layers.

So what I would like to know is the best way to solve the problems I've thought of
and what are the problems I haven't thought of?

Thanks in advance for you help and comments!

Thanks, I have it on my lap and desk tops. I've also started using Affinity on my iPAD Pro. I love the bigger screen size and resolution it offers while being more portable than my MacBook when traveling.

Thanks Again Everyone for your thoughts comments. I've decided to Raw/Extra Jpeg with the jpeg being B/W and the raw full color. I'll be shooting with a f2.8 28-105mm and f2.8 80-200mm by Tamron. (Not the newest kids on the block but I love the results they give.) I may also carry the f3.5-6.5 24-270mm FE mount "kit" lens as a back up but I'm not leaning towards it very strongly.

Once Again thanks for all the feedback!

Thanks EVERYONE! You’ve confirmed what I was thinking. Guess I was looking for an easy way. In an art form where there is no easy way.

Planning a shoot. Available light only, band performance. I want the final prints in b/w. Should I shoot b/w jpegs or raw+jpegs? If I shoot jpegs (w A7r2) I can see the image thru the view finder, on the flip if I shoot raw I’ve got a Little more range to work with in post. Is it worth the extra work to wait until post to convert the image?

Hi,

Is anyone using Affinity post processing software on their iPAD pro (12.9in).
I've just downloaded and am in the process of testing it out as a mobile
studio. If anyone is using please share with me info about the workflow
you find most useful, plug-ins (if there are any) etc.

Thanks

Personally, I have multiple lens because I have a camera (mirrorless) that allows me through the use of an adapter use lens from almost any brand or era I want. I can try 1 lens vs another to get the "feel" I want. I have modern lenses, I've got a set of voitlander and zeiss primes from the late 50's. And others I for years could only dream of trying. As much as photography can be work it is also about creating a "vision". Just as a painter isn't limited to one brush or a writer one pen why should a photographer be limited to one lens unless he or she choices to be? Just a thought or two.
