I have a 2012 iMac and I'm feeling like I need a new machine. I've been using a Mac since I got rid of a CPM machine. I'm familiar with PCs, I just don't love them.

I'm holding out to see what the new mini is going to be. I have multiple HDs. I'm thinking the new mini and a good color monitor. I agree with those that have suggested macsales.com. Yes, you'll need to know the exact model you're using now, but they have charts to tell you what options you have if you keep the same unit you're using now.

If you end up deciding to upgrade to a new machine, look at all your options before making the decision. Staying with Apple is only a bad decision if you didn't look at other options. Try to get the fastest in and out transfers you can, like thunderbolt 3. Don't buy a HD that is less than USB 3. And, consider SSDs internally in your new device. Unless you sleep in your car, shopping for a new computer could be the most fun you can have that doesn't involve sex. Good luck.

If the photos came to your phone or computer forward the mail to your wife. Then all she has to do is open the email and save the photos. You should add Dropbox to each of your family's devices, you, your wife, your daughter and anyone else you share with. Then you can send boatloads of files from anyone to anyone...

I own one, and like it. I don't use it for videos, only single shots. I too follow Graham Houghton's blog. Never bought his book, but I imagine it's as good as the posts he makes online. You might be able to find a used one online. I believe Amazon carries it. If I had it to do over I might have chosen the 300 instead, but when I bought mine the 200 was all there was. It's reliable and gives me excellent photos. If your daughter wants to do video, one of the more expensive Panasonics, the 1000 or later would be a better choice. Money is an issue for me, I'm happy with the 200.

I'm a Mac guy, have been since the CPM days. But, Apple's Macs of today aren't intuitive anymore. If you're already leaning toward a Mac though, I'd advise playing with your friends iMac. No one yet has suggested used Macs. Go to macsales.com and look at their offerings of used Macs. They're one of the best choices for upgrades and take trade-ins. You may be able to duplicate your friends machine, add more memory and still be within your budget. My next machine, I'll be looking at everything in my price range. I won't just buy a Mac, it'll have to be the right choice...

$300 is a small investment in something you'll use for years, the 27" of course... The memory is only part of it.

A photo needs a title in your files so that you can find it, I don't find a series of numbers to be enlightening. If you make a copy of the photo for an exhibit, you should follow the rules of the competition. If your photos are displayed in a gallery, I'd include a short text about each photo, allow the gallery owner or manager to decide whether to include the blurb in a cell near the photo. If you don't like his decision, don't exhibit there anymore. If you send the photo to someone it's your choice whether to include the title or not. Just my opinion...

I can't see any reason to resize an image before processing. That should one of the final things to do, not one of the first...

You can do it yourself or use the support team that you got when you bought the new computer. Contact support. They'll walk you through it.

I'll toss in my opinion too. If you're going to share on FB you'd have picked up your phone. If you pick up your camera shoot raw. I'll add a caveat, if you're taking photos of your family or close friends use your camera always. At some point you'll wish you had photos of everyone, especially those that you can't take photos of because they're gone... If you can take a mediocre photo and play with it and turn it into a keeper, you'll be hooked on raw...

Although I agree with those that question using an iPad for post editing, the iPad Pros have a great screen. I wouldn't buy one just to do PP work, but if you've got one you bought for other reasons, why not try it? If you're Mac savvy, learning to use the iPad is still a chore. As pointed it out by in the link rgrenderphoto posted, the NEW iPads run PP software faster than the larger equipment the pro carries. I have an iPad Pro 9.7” that I bought myself for Christmas, but it's not the newest one they just released. I just haven't purchased Affinity's software yet. If you buy the Mac version, it'll work on the iPad too. That video also showed how the pro used smaller devices when traveling to charge all his photo equipment. I found the video useful even if I wasn't concerned about the pro's iPad comments. There were links to each of the devices he showed, saving a little time if you were looking for smaller gadjets to charge YOUR equipment.

Want your money back? If you used PayPal, you should be talking to them not us. If you purchased from them, you subscribed to their emails. If you're getting emails from them unsubscribe. If you get something again, after a couple of weeks from when you unsubscribed, report it as spam, then delete it.

Macsales has a 6TB drive at $300 and 3TB drives at $169. It doesn't matter if you have a Mac or PC. Call them and they'll talk you through reformatting the drive. 3 Year warrantee...

In general I think you got good advice from everyone. I'd like to pick and choose from them. First, you don't have to deal with Apple. You'll get the machine you want by dealing with any of the retailers that sell Apple. I use MacMall. The advantage is there's no sales tax, on a $2000 purchase that's probably around $140. Second, I like the idea of buying the extra ram from MacSales. Third, no one has mentioned this yet, the new machine will be a lot heavier that the old one. I'm just short of 70 years old, and I can't lift as much weight as I used to do. If you were to find a neighbor, a high school kid or better yet a college kid and get them to help it'll be much easier for you to assemble the computer (put it on it's stand) and add any add-ons (the extra ram) at the same time. Currently you can get 2 - 8GB ram sticks for $129 from Macsales, that would take you to 24GB ram. Do the assembly on a blanket on your dining room table, or on your bed. When you get ready for an external HD consider Macsales then too. In addition to the HD you'll get software to assist in backups and trouble shooting at no additional charge, probably with free shipping and again no sales tax. Then give your assistant either a great meal or a few bucks to spend in town.
Good Luck,
