new to photoshop and need some help: on my older computer w/o photoshop, I put new pictures in by inserting the card and saving. Then I open the file (presumably by Windows 7) and am able to scroll through them all w/ a simple click -- I don't have to save or open in Canon PP. Shot 150 pics yesterday counting the RAW +jpeg. My new Dell i7 8th gen, 4k Nvidia Geforce dedicated processor and the very latest full Adobe Creative Cloud won't do that. I put the pics in a folder on my desktop as usual but since yesterday, I cannot open any except in Photoshop and then in only let's me open one at a time -- for processing. The whole purpose of skimming few them is to decide which ones I want to process fist. How do I just use windows or should I try using Lightroom just to review, save some jpegs for e mailing quickly. I have lightroom but even after 2 community college courses on Photoshop, have no idea what Lightroom is or how to use it. I’m a bit lery of tinikering with my windows 10 settings but want to use for initial review of raw files, my Canon DPP or even Lightzone both of which I am very familiar with and only after selecting, process those with Photoshop. This is assume there is no way to just skim through the raw and jpeg files with photoshop that my computer is now defaulting to? One other – sort of anti-trust question: My computer didn’t come with Photoshop. Before I bought it, the computer used Windows photo viewer. How is it that once I’ve bought Photoshop, my personal computer defaults to it? Missing my Darkroom; Dectol, the smell of fixer in the morning. Thanks in advance.

was about to buy the $9.99/month Creative Cloud Photographers plan which includes Lightroom and Photoshop but noticed that it says "Annual Plan/Paid Monthly. I only need Photoshop + updates and plugs ins and don't need Lightroom. But I don't want to be legally obligated to pay for a whole year. So is it $9.99/for however many months I want of will I essentially be buying a year (@ $120 which isn't so bad either). I don't understand what I would be buying? You Tube, etc. doesn't explain. Thank you all in advance.

Exactly as you said: Magical. I mean the way you used the light.

Thanks. I'm heading there today to check out a few. That is the graphics card I've been thinking too. Also very seriously considering Dell.

Daily use: Photography and business (legal) work.
Where to buy: IDK, Slick Deals, Amazon, Best Buy, HP, Dell???
What to buy:
Minimum specs I'm planning to look at:
I5 (not i7)
8G
SSD (I think 500GB)
15 inches;
upgraded Graphics card- worth the extra money
No touch screen and no 2 in 1

Some recommend the 2019 HP Probook 450 G5 15.6" Anti-Glare HD Business Laptop (Intel Quad Core i5-8250U, 8GB DDR4 RAM, Samsung 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, UHD 620) Type-C, WiFi AC, Webcam, HDMI, VGA and I don't know if I need 500 GB.

I have an Window 7 HP w/i5 now, but it's about to die.

Someone with a lot of computer knowledge has recommended the Dell i5575a217slvpus inspiron 15 5575 ledbacklit display amd ryzen 5 radeon vega8 graphics 8gb memory 1tb hard drive, 15.6
I understand the past issues with AMD but he says he has a newish ryzen processor and it's great. The price is certainly great. 1 tb isn't bad, but the guy at my local Windows repair shop says Ryzen is untested and stick with the i5.

Like Seargent Shultz, 'I know nothing'. Thank you all in advance. I have a week or so. I dropped my HP on it's head, fan is going. It's not over-heating and I'm backing it up daily and everything is on the cloud too, but I replaced the fan a year ago, and the guy at the shop says don't bother again.
cheers,

ALL: Thanks so much for the guidance. Library doesn't have access to Lynda.com so I will take it slowly as suggested. Not to belabor the issue but I notice that courses in GIMP are offered. I have GIMP but could not teach myself very well. Canon DPP - I was able to learn. Does starting over with GIMP make sense?

The Goal: Getting as proficient digitally (including using my Canon Pro 100 "darkroom developer") as I was with 40+ years in the darkroom--actually I'd be happy to be as proficient as I was in my home darkroom and working in a pro lab for a couple of years Circa 1972- 74. So the question is where to devote the time, not a money question: Should I learn Photoshop?

I have Canon's DPP, GIMP 2 and a few other programs but want to learn and use Photoshop. (So I am told, anyway!). There are numerous online courses and a few at the community collage. Which version of Photoshop should I purchase and what do you recommend for learning in addition to trial and error? Thank you all in advance.

I've been to Israel 46 times beginning June 1967. Jordan and Egypt too. You need a wider fast lens. There are some amazing but tight alleys and desert 'moonscapes'. A wider lens will also be useful for many of the Holy places as well.

I have wondered about Machia's question also. I have a Canon 60D which at the time I got it from B& H, thought, I'd save a little money w/o need for WiFi. But as far as I know now, even if there was a WiFi card available - that would work - camera's like mine only have one slot for a card. So am I right to think that there would be no medium so record the images in the first place, in such a situation?

Machia: What camera are you planing to shoot with?
