My wife and I are going to the Holy Land in June. My question for those of you that may have been there is what lens or lenses should I take.

I use a Canon 5D3 and have the following lenses: 24-105L f4.0, 70-200L F 2.8, and a 100-400L F 4.5-5.6.

All lenses have IS. All Lenses are Canon.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

If thTose are the only options, I would take the first two. The only thing you’ll be missing is something wider than your 24-105. My two shekels. Have a great trip.

Take the first two - would have just recommended the 24-105 but you are going to need the f2.8 inside some areas where flash is discouraged or not allowed - some churches, museums, etc. However may border on too long. Enjoy - it is a trip you will never forget.

I have been there. The 24-105 would be great, however you'll need the f/2.8 for indoor shots. The 70-200 f/2.8 may be too long inside.

The "Holy Land." Does that mean Israel or does it mean the West Bank and Gaza?

I'm thinking it's any "land" that doesn't attack and kill people. Do you think Gaza and the West Bank would be included?

Every "land" that I've heard of has, at one time or another, attacked and killed people. Humanity is due for a product recall. At any rate, Jericho has biblical significance and it is in the West Bank and under the partial control of the Palestinian Authority. I just wonder why some prefer to call a nation "'The Holy Land" rather than its actual name on the global map--Israel.

Perhaps an understanding of the various religious beliefs and the significance they had and continue to have on contemporary society. I think it is called the Holy Land for that reason. Israel is not the sole location for the Holy Land.

That is an ignorant statement showing you know very little about middle eastern history politics and religion except what you read on Facebook. FYI. In 1968 Israel attacked with out provocation the USS Liberty. Were you aware of that? In 1972 Israel invaded and attacked Lebanon. There are many other instances of Israel attacking other countries. So I guess that would exclude Israel too? Countries in the Middle East have been attacking each other since the Begining of Western Civilization. Usually in then name of religion.
The holy land is considered Israel and Palestine(Gaza and east bank) parts of Jordan and Southern Lebanon and parts of Syria It is considered holy land by many different religions. Christians Jews Muslims. The trip will be amazing. The history is compelling, the good the bad and the ugly. The OP is going on a trip of a lifetime.

Because “The Holy Land” is more than just the State of Israel. It is also Palestine Jordan Southern Lebanon part of Syria and different areas have different significance to different religions. The Holy land is not a country but rather a region. Maybe for the same reason people prefer to call it St Theresa’s Church instead of 123 Main st or Temple Beth Shalom instead of 456 Main St. Because the significance of the location is greater than just the address

I made the trip to Israel last November. (Sorry that some will respond to your term "Holy Land" in order to turn your post into a political argument.) What a trip of a lifetime. Take the first two lenses you mentioned.
I purchased the Canon M50 for my trip in order to save weight and used the kit lens 15-45 mm 3.5-6.3 for 99% of my photos. I never used flash. I was with a large group and had to move with it. Little time to decide how I wanted to set up my shot. Little time to be changing lenses. With camera set on Aperture priority and auto ISO I got very good exposures in very low light. Have a great trip.

We just returned from our trip to the Bible land (not holy land) and enjoyed very much. 24-105 lens is good enough. A smaller mirror less camera will be better than lugging that heavy Canon. I took my canon 7D 24-105 and found it difficult. Along with the camera take a good pair of walking shoes and be prepared for long walks. Enjoy.

In Jerusalem Its going to be hot and you will likely be walking a lot. I’ve been on my own each time- weekends off on a business trip so had time to linger. As others have suggested, there are a lot of amazing opportunities with low light. You might think about a faster wide angle prime- you can rent one for a pretty nominal cost if you dont want to buy. A light tripod is also useful, I was surprised how often I was able to use mine. I had a 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8L the last trip and really only used the longer lens at sunset. A monopod can also be helpful, doubles as a walking stick if your knees start to complain about the stairs. Enjoy, its an amazing place, steeped in history, and full of interesting people from many cultures
