I finally had some marginal success with birds in flight and fight. I have not made many attempts, but was right place, right time, and finally a photo or 2 that I like.

Thank you...yes I have several dslr's but the wife is not comfortable with my cameras and she has this stubborn streak, that she wants her own camera for her telescope. I will definitely look at the Celestron Nextimage 10 Solar system imager. thank you

we have recently purchased n Orion 6" starblaster, and although my wife has tried so very hard to capture photos with her phone, the I-phone 11 pro with the 3 cameras is making it difficult. she is mostly interested in taking moon shots, sun photos with our solar filter of course, and in the future some planetary photos as well. looking for camera suggestions for the above scenarios @ a cost of less than $500. Thank you all in advance for your time and thoughts.

You haven't seen the Sigma if that is the case, I am a Canon guy too, look at my gear list in the signature line, the Sigma 135 is amazing.

True statement....I have not checked out the Sigma...probably blind stubbornness on my part. i will give it a look though, as you have made me quite curious. Thank you Blur

I don't want to be negative at all but the Sigma f/1.8 is a better lens, but if your budget is a concern the Canon is less expensive and a good bit lighter.

Thanks for the recommendation, but the Canon choice for me is the Bokeh this lens produces. It is unmatched from what I see and read. Plus, I am just a Canon guy and stick with those.

They are actually really affordable purchasing new!

Agreed...but saving a few bucks if I can find a gently used copy is fine with me.

we tried many different ones and this worked best for us. Tip.....put a piece of tape over the wide angle lens on the phone, and line up the standard lens thru the hole. it works very well and has been easy to use on our 6" dob. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OXKHD8K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Canon 7D MKiii is one of the very best wildlife cameras out there. It shoots @ 10 fps, has fantastic focus tracking, and I just saw a used one rated @ 9 out of 10, for sale @ B&H, in their used dept for $799.00 US. Tough to beat that price for a quality camera. take the savings and then buy you some good glass, like others have suggested the Canon 100-400 MKii.

Why should anyone complain about how many posts one makes ? Obviously a heavy poster has a passion for photography and enjoys being involved. None of us really knows what situation a member is in unless you walk in someone's shoes. Some may be confined to a wheelchair, bedridden or maybe just can't get out to pursue his/her passion and a forum is a great place to be involved. I particularly did not like the negative post on Jerry who is prob. one of the most helpful people on this site... Get real people and get a life !

Jerryc41 is one the most helpful people on here, as well as several others who have commented on this post....CHG CANON, Linda from Maine, and UTMIKE all are informative, helpful and provide knowledge and insights to any and all who post here. Each one always treats others with respect and consideration, without regard to how much or how little the original posters knowledge of said subject may be.

the 18-400 is really a great lens for what it is....a walk-around that covers all the bases. I have had mine for 2 years and really love it for the versatility and the range when you can really only carry your camera and 1 lens.

I'm beginning to realize that the max aperture of f/3.5 on the 10mm-22mm or the f/4.5 on the 10mm-18mm Canons might be limiting in small non-well lit places. In that case, I should broaden my search for a good (not too expensive) UWA with a larger aperture. I've had several suggestions here about brands other than Canon. A Tokina and a Samyang, I believe it was. Any other favorites out there?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Tom

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8........great lens that is relatively inexpensive. Very sharp and well built.
