Hi folks,
I will be leaving for Italy in less than two weeks. I have a Canon 7D MkII with the Canon EF-S 18-135 3.5-5.6 IS STM lens and a Canon EF 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM. After reading a previous post where the guy was questioning his lens choices, I was wondering if I should add a wider angle lens to my equipment. I realize my 18mm is equivalent to approximately 28mm on a full frame. If I decide to get a wider angle for my APS-C camera, what do the Hogs recommend? I prefer to stay with Canon.

I just found an EF-S 10-22mm 3.5-4.5 USM for $299 at KEH. Is this a reasonably good lens and price for my 7D MkII?

At that price it is either used or grey market.

BTW, K&H is very reputable so if it is a used lens I wouldn't hesitate to buy it provided they show it as being in good condition. If it is grey market that's not a real big deal with Canon because they will service and repair grey market but there will be no US warranty so you would have to pay out of pocket. Not a big issue considering that lenses don't often have issues during the warranty period. For that matter, neither do most cameras.
I have the Canon 10-22 and find it to be an excellent choice. Sharp with very little flare and quick focusing.

I know you say you want to stay with Canon but there the only choices besides high end EF mounts are slow.
You really need a faster wide angle for use indoors where they allow pictures.
My wide angle is a 14 mm f/2.8 made by Samyang. I have the less expensive manual focus model, they have a new AF+weathersealed version version that is $600. They are produced under several names for different distributors in the US and get good ratings in the reviews. Rokinon is the most common brand found. Mine does very well. They also have a 10 & 12 mm that are not labeled "fish eye" so the distortion, if any is correctable in LR, PS etc. And they do have a 20 mm f/1.8 that though not as wide is faster.
The Samyang produced lenses are in EF mount and will work on FF if you ever get one. I switch mine back and forth between my 5DIV (had a 6D when I got it), 7DII and 80D. I got it for interior shots of railroad cars at the railway museum I belong to and outdoor shots of locomotives and other equipment so I could work up closer. It did very well on the 6D and my 7DII the couple of times I used that combo. On FF the Angle Of View is 116 degrees and in APS-C it is 90 degrees, good for interior and exterior shots of buildings from fairly close.

Thank you for your replies. Yes, the price I mentioned from KEH was for their "Excellent Quality Plus" version of a used lens. After reading the two review you sent, I decided that if I get either, it would be the 10-18mm. As far as leaving the 70-300 home, I would rather carry it than be there and say, "Gee, I'm sorry I don't have that lens with me." I'll be doing some hiking through the hills of Abbruzzo while there and having a long lens for some of the shots will be welcome.
Thanks to all who have replied to my question.

I have the Tokina 11-16 F2.8...love the lens and it takes excellent photos. use mine mostly for car shows. These were taken a few weeks ago on the 7D MKii...1st photo....iso 100, f5.6, 1/640 @ 16mm. 2nd photo...iso 100, F7.1, 1/400 @ 12mm.
I would stay with what you have. The 10-22 is very wide. The above photo is very good, excellent. However in the photo with the green roadster, you can see the curve of the horizon. IMHO, 10-22 is too wide unless you shoot close ups as in the top photo, in that case your 18-55 will do the same thing.

I have the 10-18mm EFs for my 7D.
Very sharp, small and lightweight. Matches premium lenses by others for a fraction of the cost.
For the naysayers who say it is not rugged I have used mine since they came out about and it is rugged enough unless abused.
A most excellent lens and highly recommended.
LOL. The the third rate, I mean 3rd party lens buyers just can't help themselves. LOL

You're welcome!
As far as the 70-300 all I can say is that from my own experience I wouldn't bother taking a long lens on a vacation without a very specific need. Five years ago I took my 70-300 L, a somewhat hefty and bulky lens, to Hawaii. In ten days I used it once for about 10-12 shots. The rest of the time it was just dead weight. My 24-105 did everything I needed. Your experience could be different, of course, but, I would still think twice about lugging around extra gear. Especially if hiking.
