I still have my Hasselblad and RZ67 with quite a few lenses. I hear film might be making a come back. I still have some film frozen. I think composing a shot is easier with larger format cameras.

I think the D80 might be like my D70, which is APS format. The D800 is FX or full frame (24 x 36 mm).

Well, it is certainly an expensive piece of glass, but I think 35mm lenses and especially good digital camera lenses require higher resolution than medium format lenses. Just as medium format lenses generally have higher resolving power than 4x5 camera lenses, since they have to survive a much higher degree of resolution.

Since I need it mostly for portraits and photographing band, what I have should work ok. What do you think about adapting medium format lenses to digital cameras. Say, a Hasselblad lens to a Nikon D800. A friend of mine did just that but I haven't heard of the results yet

That is exactly the answer I was hoping for - that optically they were equal. I don't mind carrying a tripod. Mine is the push pull as you mentioned. Not a problemuntil you tile the lens down. What are the new ones? Half turn or something similar.
When I was using Hasselblads or Mamyia RZ67s in the studio, zoom was never an issue. The very expensive Hasselblad zoom only had a 2:1 zoom. Like, why bother.

Thanks. I know it is sharper than the kit lens and it covers a full 35mm format, so it should be ok for FX format. An additional question that I forgot to mention. You probably don't remember, cut when cameras first went digital they said the lenses wouldn't work and that they required additional elements so all the light emitted would come out parallel and not be hitting the sensor at an angle. Almost as if the sensor was located in bottom of an egg box. Has that an issue into days sensors or was that just marketing to sell additional lenses?
Thanks

Nothing wrong with stating the facts.

How does my Nikon ED 80 - 200mm f2.8 compare with the newer Nikon 70-200 with stabilization. Mine doesn't have the VR but how are the optics compared. Contemplating the purchase of a Nikon D800 so the lens has to be FX.
Thanks
