That remark on focus was needlessly rude.

I think you also have to consider what you are photographing. I have always used a protective filter on my portrait lens because I photograph dogs and cats. In a second I have a dog nose print or slobber or a pissed off cat scratch across my lens.

I volunteer at a no kill animal shelter and take pictures to make into posters to help our animals get adopted. This little Maltese had just returned from the vet as his fur was so matted when he was brought in that it was cutting off circulation to his leg and he had to shaved immediately. I will be using it to advertise the shelter and to help get him adopted.

I have a Nikon D7000 and I am told that that the 105mm f/2.8G AF-S Micro Nikkor is a great lens. Will it work with my D7000? And what does IF-ED stand for?

I have PSE 11 and Topaz DeNoise works beautifully with it. In fact I have several of their programs that I use with PSE and I think you will like them.

Oh what a nice shot! I am amazed that the deer stood still long enough for a picture! I have tried many times through the window and as soon as they see me. They move!

Thank you everyone. Looks like a winner! I photograph animals at the local shelter and I am paying more attention to the animal's face than the background so unless I am right in the animal's face I get some very distracting areas for background.

Yep, have the same setup and love it. Keep in mind that, with the crop, the equivalent magnification for that 85 mm lens will be about 127 or so. Still, I love the lens.

Thanks for the input. Newbie here to DSLR so what does that mean? Will I shoot what I see in the viewer? And does this have to do with DX vs FX?

I have the Nikon D7000 and I am looking at the Nikkor 85mm f1.8G AF-S FX lens. Will this work with my D7000?

Thanks, Dee

Just turned 74 and love having the time to pursue all the interests I had to put on hold while raising a family and working. Just a little harder to squat down and get those dog pictures at their level!
