I have a Nikon D7000 and I am told that that the 105mm f/2.8G AF-S Micro Nikkor is a great lens. Will it work with my D7000? And what does IF-ED stand for?

It will work great! For a DX camera it will be about 158mm because of the sensor size. IF = internal Focusing, ED = Extra dispersion glass. I have this lens and love it. Yes, focus breathing can be annoying and it takes tack sharp pictures.

Ken Rockwell likes it too. Says he uses it for his product photos.

I have and very much like that lens for macro work. I understand that some also use it for Portrait work. If you also want to use it as a short-mid range telephoto, I think you'll find that it's not optimized for work at infinity --- results were not (to my eye) optimal.

Yes they are. Don't yet have the Smokeys option. Best wishes for the season to all.

I completely agree! If I had to replace my Nikkor 105G, I would buy a Sigma 105 macro lens instead.
