Nikon D7000, 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens. I set ISO 400 and shutter at 1/800 to freeze the action. Looking back, I'd like to have captured some sense of motion by panning and blurring the background. I will be spending a few weekends at horse shows, so feel free to offer suggestions for the next shows. These have had some cropping and minimal post processing. I usually shoot RAW and adjust WB in Lightroom.
Very nice!! The last 2 are my favorites.
The first shot made my smile. Nice set. Thanks for sharing.
Looks to me like Nikon has the upper hand ;-)
I need to learn patience :-) Thanks for all the feedback. I'm still trying to develop an eye for B/W.
twowindsbear - I post the original when I get back to my MAC. I'm away from my photos during the week. I was using flash and trying to avoid shadows. Some of my shots looked over exposed. I found the exposure setting in LightRoom and liked how more details appeared as I dropped the exposure.

Thank you for your nice comment. I think it is the tree that makes the shot work, almost over-powering the bird.
I would like to see more of the bird. The tree does make the bird harder to see, but the overall picture has great interest.
Welcome. I'm new to UH as well. Nice place to be able to share pictures and get feedback. I've enjoyed getting some honest input, rather than just the family feedback :-) Looking forward to seeing more pictures. This first one is a very nice scene.
Beautiful bird. Interesting tree. Nice shot.
Very nice shot, and a nice narrative to complement the photo.
Love the pictures. 1 and 3 are my favorites.
Looks like color is the preference. I may try some others in B/W. So nice to get feedback. Thanks all.
White horse - Does this work better in BW?

Color, but she seems to disappear right into the horse in both versions.
She does. I didn't even pay attention to that. Thanks for the observation. I appreciate the feedback.
I did a photo shoot with my step daughter today. She loves horses and rides at the local barn. I was able to get some good shots and started playing with this one. I like the black and white version, but I still seem to think the original in color is a better shot. Thoughts?
used LightRoom to under expose by 2 stops and do B/W
used lightRoom to under expose by 2 stops
Thanks all. It looks like Lacey will be her name. But there have been some solid suggestions here ;-)
