I recently did some research on filters. I ended up buying heliopan uv lenses. Pricey; but excellent reviews.

How much do they run?

Unfortunately, I live in a town of 400 people in the middle of South Dakota so my resources are extremely limited when it comes to camera shops. All I can do is try to do the research on the web and then look into things available online. As far as buying from ebay, they do have "EBAY buyer protection" where they will refund my money should something like that happen. I'm not naive; I do know that there are sketchy people out there but judging by the fact that the person had all positive feedback and had recently sold much more expensive items and people were happy with them I figured my chances of receiving the product they promised is very good.

I looked on the Costco website just out of curiosity and it didn't look like they had the t3i available. My dad just purchased the 7D and he said that I could use his canon 18-135 that came in his kit (he was up against time constraints so he ended up going the kit route because they didn't have the lens he wanted in stoce and it wouldn't arrive in time for his trip.) So I'll have both the starter lenses to use and learn with.

Yes, actually it included expedited shipping for free. And yes, it's USA warrantied.

Thank you all for your responses. I ended up passing on the larger bundle, as several pointed out, there was a lot of extra stuff that I really didn't want. I ended up winning one on auction on ebay. New with the 18-55mm and 8 gb card for $750. I think it was a good deal. Offers return if I'm not happy with it. Like I mentioned before, I plan to buy the 18-270 lens to go with it so hopefully the 18-55mm is a good lens to tide me over until I receive the other lens? Also, suggestions on brand/ what type of UV filter to buy to protect my lenses. Want to make sure to have them so I can put them on as soon I get the lenses. I have 5 children so I want to take any extra steps I can to protect my investment. Not that I plan on leaving my camera lying around; but you know how kids can be. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for the help. It's greatly appreciated. This will be my first DSLR and I know I could/should probably get something lower for a beginner but from what I read for reviews even beginners can use this camera. Plus, I want to get something that I will be able use and grow with for years to come. I've talked to my cousin who works in a camera store and she said that I should get a tamron 60mm and 18-270mm; mainly so I will have a lens for doing macro which I love to do and the other as a walk around lens. Any thoughts on these lenses?

Hi, I'm looking to get a canon rebel t3i and I know how most people feel about the whole kit deal with added pricing. I looked on ebay and they have a brand new one for sale for $1,175 that includes:
T3i Camera Body
Canon 18-135mm Lens
Canon 75-300mm Lens
Wide Angle Lens
2x Telephoto Lens
LCD Screen Protector
Table Top Tripod
Lens Cleaning Kit
Multi Card Reader
16GB of SD Memory
Memory Card Wallet
2 x Extra Battery
Digital Flash
Filter Kit
Full size tripod
Soft Case
External Charger
I would really like some honest responses on whether or not this really is a good deal, please.

Well, when you shoot it from the other side I definitely see the elephant. I love those kind of photos.

Quiggsly 55- I see a vulture spying it's prey. Head craning down to get a better look. Although it could be an eagle too.

Hello, my name is Jayna and I'm new around here. I love taking pictures. I carry a camera everywhere I go and I'm not afraid to use it.
Each year I get a new camera in hopes of finding the one I truly love. So far they've just been various canons. My latest is a canon powershot sx130is but like the ones before it, I find things about it that I don't care for; not the results I'm hoping for. So, I've been saving up for yet another purchase.
I had been considering getting a rebel but I happened upon information about the new nikons (1 J1 & V1) being released next month and I'm torn. They both sound really good but I'm not sure which way to go; a new nikon or the rebel. I'd like to think I know a thing or two about photography, but when it comes to cameras I'm not so sure.
Does anyone have any advice on what would be a good fit for me? I have 5 sons (from 3 to 13) so there is always something to take pictures of.
I'm looking for something incredibly fast to bring even the fastest movements to a standstill without the disappointing blur that often accompanies many of my photos. I also like recording movies and the fact that the J1 and V1 can simultaneously take hi res photos while recording HD video is a big selling point for me.
I like taking pictures of everything; but besides the sky, people and animals I like to try to photograph very small things. But I'm wanting something that will capture all those minute details that you can't see with the naked eye. I also need something that works well in low light as well as bright sunny days.
I'm sorry. I'm jabbering on. I could go on forever but I think I'll leave it there for the moment. Anyone have any suggestions to point me in the right direction?
