Hi, I'm looking to get a canon rebel t3i and I know how most people feel about the whole kit deal with added pricing. I looked on ebay and they have a brand new one for sale for $1,175 that includes:
T3i Camera Body
Canon 18-135mm Lens
Canon 75-300mm Lens
Wide Angle Lens
2x Telephoto Lens
LCD Screen Protector
Table Top Tripod
Lens Cleaning Kit
Multi Card Reader
16GB of SD Memory
Memory Card Wallet
2 x Extra Battery
Digital Flash
Filter Kit
Full size tripod
Soft Case
External Charger
I would really like some honest responses on whether or not this really is a good deal, please.

my first thought is that this company is getting rid of a bunch of stuff.

the battery is probably made in china; stay away.
the telextender is not going to be of much use.

The Canon T3i is a fine camera but I'd stick with a more reputable source for the purchase such as Amazon or B&H.

Maybe start with the camera body and just one lens such as the 18-135. Amazon has that for under $1,000 with free shipping and no sales tax to many states.

Later, as you get more familier with the camera you can decide what other items you would really need going forward and pick those up seperately.

Throw away the "wide angle lens".
Throw away the "2x Telextender"
Throw away the "LCD Screen Protector"
Throw away the "tabletop Tripod"
Throw away the "Filter kit"

Price a T3i body alone. It should come with a battery and charger as part of the box. I think they run in the $750-$800 range but I could be wrong. Check what Adorama or B&H are getting for a body only.

The 18-135 is about $290. The 75-300 is about $225. A 16GB card is about $30. Chinese junk batteries, maybe $15. The tripod is probably a real cheapy one too - maybe $50.

Apart from the two lenses, there's no real value added in that package. Just do a little homework and you'll see.

Thanks so much for the help. It's greatly appreciated. This will be my first DSLR and I know I could/should probably get something lower for a beginner but from what I read for reviews even beginners can use this camera. Plus, I want to get something that I will be able use and grow with for years to come. I've talked to my cousin who works in a camera store and she said that I should get a tamron 60mm and 18-270mm; mainly so I will have a lens for doing macro which I love to do and the other as a walk around lens. Any thoughts on these lenses?

:-( sorry but I was not impressed with the t3's overall construction. It kind of depends on what you want to do with it. The price sounds good but I would be a bit careful. Some or all of the add-ons might be gray market or refurbished. Now don't get me wrong some of that equipment is as good as the original, but I prefer to look, touch and handle everything before I buy. If you live in or near NYC go to Adorama at 42 West 18th Street, New York City, NY. You can look , touch to your hearts content. There prices are competitive too. I have been doing this for close to 50 yrs and I just went digital 2 years ago, so I'm having to relearn a lot of this new technology myself. Hope this has helped good luck.

Sounds like a really good deal, but take note on the above suggestion.

I to am am new to DLSR Photography and I first purchased the T3i with a kit lense. I got it home and was so excited but it just didn't have the feel for what I wanted. I took it back after 2 weeks of playing with it and purchased the Canon 60D and since then have purchased several lenses off EBay. My favorites are the 50mm and 70-300 IS USM. The battery is great I must add. Good luck!

I just recently purchased a Canon t3i. I shopped alot of local camera shops before looking at Best Buy. They have great deals on the camera and usually bundle it with another lens. They also through in an additional 15% off other accessories if I purchased them at the time with the camera. That's when I bought the extra Canon battery, memory card and camera bag.
I am also new using a dslr and I can tell you it is an easy camera to get familiar with.

I bought my T3i about 4 months ago - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I stepped up from XSi and this is great for my learning curve - (still just learning the ropes). The camera fits my hands much better than the 60D and the 60D was too much for me. I think you will love this - have fun !! I agree with the other responses to just get 2 basic lenses and play with them, then see what equipment you really need/ want and what you can afford. You will be happier.

I was torn between the T3i and T2i....They were basically the same except for the LCD screen. I bought the T2i and I am very pleased with my choice. I think its $100 cheaper. I bought a Tamron lens 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD lens as an "all purpose" lens for shooting soccer and basketball games. I am very happy with my purchase.

not a bad deal check out the items separately and se how much you save the camera is a-one and lenses kit is good and this coming from nikondaddy. Yes I have usedCanons but prefer nikon in the digital just a matter of taste.

Stay away from kit deals. Look for the T3i body with the Canon zoom lens in the 20 - 100mm range and maybe the 75-300 canon which is an excellent lens. Also a Canon battery. Most of the the other stuff in the kits is junk or stuff you probably never use.

Thank you all for your responses. I ended up passing on the larger bundle, as several pointed out, there was a lot of extra stuff that I really didn't want. I ended up winning one on auction on ebay. New with the 18-55mm and 8 gb card for $750. I think it was a good deal. Offers return if I'm not happy with it. Like I mentioned before, I plan to buy the 18-270 lens to go with it so hopefully the 18-55mm is a good lens to tide me over until I receive the other lens? Also, suggestions on brand/ what type of UV filter to buy to protect my lenses. Want to make sure to have them so I can put them on as soon I get the lenses. I have 5 children so I want to take any extra steps I can to protect my investment. Not that I plan on leaving my camera lying around; but you know how kids can be. Thanks again.
