Flame Painter is a very reasonable painting program that is worth trying out. Some of the different style brushes are fantastic. You can of course, try it out for nothing. You may be pleasantly surprised!!!

Possibly the best magazine for wildlife, adventure and nature is the British magazine "Outdoor Photography"

Have a look at the reviews for a Panasonic Lumix FZ 1000. It is in your price bracket and has one of the largest sensors for a bridge camera. It has worked well for me in 3 continents.Taking thousands of shots and printing 20x16 inch
After 70 years carting Nikon and Canon SLRs and digital bodies and lenses around the World, my back decided it had had enough. I then purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ1000. The quality and standard of 20x19 competition prints I can produce is superb. I suggest you take a peak at it!! It might suit.

Had 5 Epson A3 printers over the years. Excellent printers, used Epson inks. The print heads on all of them jammed up. Last printer purchased was the Canon Pro 100S Using generic inks for 2 years with no problems at all!!!
Having toured both Canyon de chelly and Monument Valley with a Navajo guide I would suggest that the floor of the Canyon de Chelly is the best bet with a guide
