Here are a few of past year's photos I've taken of my children, who are now 7 and 9. The one of my daughter in a snowstorm, was taken 3 days after my son was born. It snowed for 3 days straight from the day he was born, and this was the third day. I liked how the trail went off in the background, into the woods, so positioned her so that was right behind her.
The Father Christmas photo, I took while they were just chatting with him, a candid shot before the formal photo was taken. Since my daughter's face was mostly in shadow, I had to move around a bit to be sure to get her profile against a lighter background and the white fur worked perfectly for that.
The one with the tree on her little car was when she was just 2 years old. We this scene all the time with adult cars and we were lucky enough to get that good snowfall, so this worked perfectly in our drive.

I love the way you've worked with dabbled light in this photo. Well done!
Beautiful. I love the way the shadows work with the dress making the colors, particularly the reds, "pop."
Hi Thomas - I appreciate your taking the time to answer my questions. No worries here- I can't even get a comb through my own hair much less start taking on DIY make-up. Your examples of work over the years coupled with your helpful commentary has really opened my eyes to the importance of make-up professionals in the world of people photography. Thank you for increasing my awareness, and I am looking forward to your next images! All the best!
I'm always mesmerized by your work, especially upon download whereupon, I find myself pulled even deeper into the flawless details. Forgive my ignorance, but is the glitter applied separately from the blue eye-shadow or is it one product, and are the eyelashes applied one at a time or as a piece? (the first shot looks like a one piece, but your portfolio sample, looks like they may be one at a time. How much time does it take you to do a make up session, and how often do you need to do "touch-ups" during a shoot? When attempting more formal photos of my friends and family, I do look out for the "sheen" that often develops after a bit, and I keep some blotting papers and a generic powder handy if needed;otherwise, they are on their own in the make-up department, and I find I need to be careful about not inadvertently insulting anyone who has a particular sheen developing. Before a session, I always ask them to stay away from make-up with reflective, glittery, elements, but you've just shown that may be a fallacy on my part. Thank you for sharing your creative work and identifying the foundation you used.
Lovely. Nothing beats a great candid... IMHO
