Just got back last week from Sedona, GC, and Page. Used my D750 and 24-70 90% of the time. Brought the 70-200 and 17-35. They stayed in the backpack or back at the hotel most of the time. Stay hydrated!!
Remember you are not at sea level.

Hi Amy,

This is from someone who tends to overthink things and is always worried that he left the perfect lens for the job at home. I also have almost the identical gear that you have. My wife and I toured Italy a few years back. I had the 28-300 on my camera most of the time. It is a fine lens and covers almost everything that you will encounter. I used the 14-24 occasionally outdoors and used it and the 50mm indoors. The 50mm is so light that you won't notice it. I only brought one body and did not regret bringing my sb910, but to be honest, I don't use flash that much unless I am shooting portraits.
Enjoy your trip. It was one of the best times of my life. The mozzarella in Sorrento was ineffable.

Thanks cbtsam. My backpack is 20x11x9. It is very comfortable, but all of the museums in NY ask me to check it.

I was thinking of bringing only two lenses but always regret not bringing the third (or fourth...). Thanks asiafish.

Thanks tjphxaz. I will probably bring my 50mm 1.8, 24-70 2.8, and 70-200. This should cover what I need.

Thanks d2b2. I live in NY. They allow only very small backpacks in the Metropolitan museum and they have to be worn around front or on your side for the reasons you noted.

Thanks Jeff. I'm sure we will need a vacation from this vacation, however. Luckily, we both like to walk.

I knew I could count on the folks on this forum for good advice.
Thanks everyone!! My wife and I will only be there for a few days, so we will be sticking to the mall and the major monuments. I'll take a small kit with me during the day and go back at night with my tripod.

Thanks for your response. I agree that the sling bag sounds best.

I will be traveling to DC soon. I hope to be able to explore the Mall inside and out and noticed that many of the museums were a bit vague about what kind of equipment bags they allowed inside. I like to "load up" and go out for the day. The Smithsonian's website says that "small" backpacks are allowed, but that's not much help. Has anyone had experience with this? Would a sling type shoulder bag be a better bet? I would appreciate any recommendations.
