Is there a comparo link for some of these new P&S cameras. Are there others besides the new Canon G1X and the Fuji X S1. I think Panasonic and Olympus also have these newwe models in developmet or near market. my question: is there a comparo link for these new guys?
TIA

Is there any truth to the idea that ordering from Canon website will give you the latest build for a particular product... IOW, what is on the shelf of a retailer may be 'older' than what you get by ordering direct???

I am looking to upgrade to full format sensor, DSLR. I want a Canon 5D MK II that is absolutely MINT, PRISTINE condition. I am also looking for a Canon 24 - 105mm F-4.0 "L" series lens with "IS". Lens must be in AS NEW condition as well. Also looking for a Canon 70 - 200 mm both F4.0 and/or F2.8 "L" series with "IS".

If you are considering selling any of the above, contact me asap as I am ready to make this move.

Thanks,

I'm easily confused and am looking to find this comparison to help me understand which to buy. Can someone analyze, or point me where I can get a head to head comparo? THX :)

personally I would use UGH. I think it's a more accurate (so to speak) abbrev... but that's just me. If not that, then UHH, but definitely not uh or UH..

That's an amazing pic Bob considering the high ISO. What was your shutter speed?

As an aside I envy your location. I lived in Seattle from 91-97 when I owned a business out there. Unfortunately, I didn't get into much photography until after I left, but the opportunities for vistas in a 150 mile radius of Seattle were outstanding.. probably the best..

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the 18-200 is a twist tele...and it definitely slips.

If it's a twist and it slips, then I agree with Joe and Silver..send it back and don't take no for an answer, even if you have to go directly to Canon (www.canonusa.com)

Good Morning, I'm new to this forum but immediately have a question regarding my new 18-200mm Canon Lens. It slips. I have spoken with Canon and they know the lens has issues and have provided a lock for the full out or full in positions but in the middle it can move. Any one have any suggestions? Have any of you dealt with this problem before? My 300mm lens never budges. I was unaware of this being an issue with Canon.

You mention your 300mm lens. If that's a prime lens, then obviously it won't 'slip.'

Is the 18-200lens a 'twist tele' or a 'slide' tele? I have all Canon lenses and my 'twist' tele's never slip. The 'slider' tele that I have (100-400mm) has a ring that goes from 'smoother to tighter' depending on how you twist the ring once you determine your desired focal length.

Hope this helps :)

Get the best brand name tripod you can afford and if you want a ball head, get one with a built in level and a quick detach plate. Bogen (Manfrotto), Gitzo, Vanguard, Giotto are all good. Vanguard makes some nice ball heads at reasonable prices, so does Bogen.

Just personal preference, but I like lever locks on the legs over screw collars.

I would suggest that yoiu check the combined weight of your (camera) body :) plus your largest lens to make sure whatever you buy will support all your setups.

Personally, I'm looking for a tripod with interchangeable heads (Pan & Ball) as well as more than one quick release plates so I can switch bodies quickly as well.

If you go on the lens mfrs or sellers websites like Amazon, you'll usually find pros and cons in the reviews of lenses they're selling. What specifically do you mean by "overall" performance. I mean, it's a macro lens which has a pretty specific focus, so to speak (no pun intended) :)

Tracie, I stumbled on this accidentally. I bought a Canon 100 Macro Lens (the $1000 one with IS). This lens produces some of the shapest images I've ever seen. In perusing some reviews, I saw where folks were using this lens for portraiture work primarily because of the lens quality. The lens is expensive, but if you want a "twofer", ie macro and portraiture, then this one may be the best one. And, of course when used with a Canon 5DMk2, I believe you have the best of the best... just my .02 :)

Besides my Glock 26, I walk around with 2 cameras. A trusty Canon G11 point & shoot (28-140mm) 2.3 that even shoots camera RAW. My big boy workhorse is my Canon 7D with a Canon 55-250 EF-S, IS lens. It's reasonably priced and superior quality shots. (Of couse pp is always available).

I make it a habit of keeping the Canon P&S G11 with me ALL the time.

Just my .02 :)

I finally got it with the help of a friend on The Mindful Eye Forum! There is a "cosmetic" (useless) ring that comes with the camera on the front of the lens. If you push on it hard, and turn counter clockwise, it will come off (eventually). Then the adapter ring will fit on the body along with a filter. However then you can't use the cap that comes with the camera. IOW, the filter lens is exposed, but it's better IMHO to have that exposed than to have the original glass unprotected.

I'm sure one can find a correct size snap-in cap or cover.
