I had a hardtop E. Not only were were the mechanicals subject to failure but body parts were finished with different paint samples. No two body parts would would weather the same. Not long after waxing, the bonnet, the doors and the body would all look different colors. The company never replaced gearshift and radio knobs lost between the “factory” and dealer.

Great capture Don on that XK140. I had a 64 XKE. Great Lucas electrical.

Many years ago I saw a bumper sticker that read: ” My refrigerator is a Lucas. It doesn’t work either.”

I understand that. But a few years back, this one guy - I forget his name - was able to get the necessary chemistry, and he offered KodaChrome processing until he'd exhausted his supply of chemicals. Unfortunately, I didn't hear of his service until after he'd shut it down.

I wouldn't need the slides to be mounted - just returned in strips, so I can then scan them.

I have a hard time understanding why Kodak will not either temporarily resume the processing or else make the chemistry available. When that one guy did his bit, he was, so I heard, flooded with work until his supply of chemicals ran out.

Kodak has recently made some noise about resurrecting EktaChrome, biut so far, they've made no mention of KodaChrome. I'd suspect that there are quite a few rolls of KodaChrome out there that need processing. Otherwise why would a few labs offer B/W processing? Labs don't offer such services unless there is a sufficient market for same.

You may be thinking of Dwayne,s, in Kansas. He was the last Kodachrome processor Andy he exhusted his entire chemical stock. No more Kodachrome anywhere.

Never done this before but just had a very good experience buying a 24-85mm AF non VR lens from Japan. This is an older lens, but wanted a made in Japan plastic version and be a clean one. Found one on EBay from "Five Star Camera". They say they clean all they sale. What I got was a perfectly clean as new lens for $149.00. Ship to MI in 5 days.. I looked at several shops in Japan but found this one most satisfactory.

I have purchased several good cameras and lenses from Japan. Everything has gone well, except for one Nicca I recently bought. I had no problem returning the item, even though my “complaint” resulted from my inexperience with the marque.

Back in the day I often backpacked with a Nikon F3 and a Pentax 645 plus lenses and tripod. I'm slowly digitizing my slides and negatives and falling in love again with the images from the 645.. I've got some great lenses, all manual, and thinking about getting a digital Pentax body and perhaps some digital lenses eventually while I'm still young enough to carry the weight. I mostly shoot landscapes. Is anyone using a digital 645 with manual lenses and what do you think?

I have used Rollei, Hasselblad. Yashica 120, Mamiya 120, Mamiya 645, and Pentax 645 film cameras. I love them all. I also own a 645Z, with both manual and auto lenses. Can’t say enough good things about this camera or Pentax lenses.

I keep touting the old Minolta lenses from 1985 or so. I believe they even made their own glass back in the day. These are the older AF lenses made of metal (no D) I have the AF 70-210 f4 macro, AF 100 macro f2.8 and the Absolutely Amazing Minolta AF 35-105 macro lenses. I can’t believe the absolute beauty of the images, especially color, taken with these lenses compaired to my Sony lenses! Do any Lense manufacturers make their own glass now or is it the best bidder? Any Hogg’s have experience with Minolta lenses? It’s the Main reason I went to Sony when they continued the A mount system on their mirrorless cameras! All of a sudden many Minolta lenses are available immediately. I can get these lenses on eBay for a song and I’m sure they have adapters for other brands. You might be in manual mode but they are Definitely worth a look. They focus extremely fast on my A77ii using the old screw drive!

Minolta also made lenses for the Leica R camera and at least one compact rangefinder camera which was sold under both Leica and Minolta brands.

Having problems with the (often published) recommendation(s) of how to "squeeze the maximum levels of image sharpness out of your lens by simply stopping your lens aperture down 2.5 to 3-stops from the lens's maximum aperture" i.e. for a lens that has a maximum aperture of f/3.5, the sweet spot of your lens resides somewhere between f/8 and f/11.

Using my 18-55mm kit lens and its' max aperture of f/3.5, two F stops would be f/4.5 and three F stops f/5.6.

Comments?

I always use f/8.

Okay, so it won't vignette, but you lose image. So why not just stick with all-DX lenses and bodies?

I fully agree with this. I always used to buy only full-frame lenses and then got an FF body as soon as it was available from Sony. Then I moved to a Pentax D, just for the increased image definition. But then I shot professionally.

That said, I once saw a 2.5 Megapixel shot of a Bhuddist Monk that had been printed six feet high and was astonished at the images quality.

Go to a brick and mortar store and handle Canon models. Combine this experience with your research findings and then make your selection. ONLY YOU can decide.

I hope this doesn't cause tension, and I know its a personal choice, but I'm just looking for suggestions.
I'm about to buy a 70-200 f2.8 lens. I've rented the Tamron many times and like it. I have friends who shoot professionally and they're suggesting I lean towards the Sigma.
As I tend to over-analyze any big purchase, does anyone have their own suggestion/preference?
Thanks

I’ve had both and I liked both. I’ve been in photography since 1950 and I would be pleased with either one.
