@david vt:
Thanks for the comment - the shots are good (if I can so so myself), but I was referring more to image quality rather than appearance. Taking photos off Facebook is a risk because of the way they compress the image, and I never know how many pixels will go AWOL when I post them here.

@Jules Karney:
Like with anything it comes down to practice and passion. I do not like wedding photography as an example, because I have no passion for that. Motorbike racing I enjoy for a number of reasons.
As for the images:
- I DO shoot in RAW
- I crop, edit, enhance, sharpen etc. in Lightroom. Photoshop is only used if I need to add a logo/ sponsors watermark etc.
- Nikon D3s and mostly 70/300 F4.5-6.3.
- Tamron 24/70 f2.8 and Nikon 20mm f1.8 in the pits
- Shutter priority: head-on shots between 1/800 and 1/1000. Panning usually not much lower than 1/160th, no VR anywhere.
- ISO depends on the day but generally between 200 and 640.
- AFS-C and back button focus.

Thanks to everyone else that has looked and commented!

I found this:

Canon has also provided plenty of flexibility for customising the controls to suit your own needs. For example, you can set up ‘back-button focusing’, with autofocus initiated by the AEL control on the camera’s shoulder rather than the shutter release. In addition, six other buttons – M.Fn and video record on the top-plate, and the four buttons of the d-pad – can each be reassigned to any of 20 other functions.

In South Africa we have a few races where old rumblers and thumpers get to stretch their legs in a race called Legends of the 9 hour. I thought to share a few here.

Last photo is how a modern day McLaren attacks a corner. (From a different class)

Quality not great, taken off my Facebook page (bored at work) and the crop is to remove my watermark.

Tom,

Thanks for the compliment! These were shot in South Africa a few weeks ago at an event called Passion for Speed Festival. I will post some more bikes and a separate post with some classics.

Again, I am posting previous Facebook posts, and if the crop looks strange, I am cropping out my watermark.

I have not posted here in a while, and sitting at work with a quiet day.

The quality is probably not great, I have just saved them off my Facebook page....

John,

I think the following:

1. I read somewhere once that LR did not like working to an external drive when doing what you want to do. Your path is referencing /Volume/ which LR does not recognize. It's looking for /Pictures/ on your Mac, whereas with PC it would look for a C:\ or D:\ etc.
2. Create your Greece folder on the Mac in Pictures. Import to that, then move the folder to the Lacie. (You may have to do step 3 below first)
3. Not sure of your setup, but I think too if you are working in Catalog A on the Mac, and need to reference another catalog (even on the Mac), I am not sure that one catalog will be able to index another catalog from within the first catalog - if that makes any sense? Which is why, when you start LR, it opens the default Catalog - if you want another catalog, you need to close the current one, then open the other one.
4. Maybe try this - close your current catalog. Open the Lacie Greece catalog from LR. See if you can now Import into the Lacie folder you created. If you can - job done. If not, then I suspect that working directly to an external is the issue (which only affects Apple users I think because of its naming structure).

I can't offer more insights now - I am at work on a PC, my Mac is at home. When I had to use PC for a short while, I struggled quite a bit because of the Apple versus Windows file and folder naming structure.)

Good luck!

I have to agree TriX.

There comes a time when we leave some things to the youngsters and keep our assets safe.

Nikon D3s and el-cheapo 70/300 for the weight. Between 10 and about 30 feet away so able to shoot between 70 and about 135mm in most cases.
Shutter between 1/200 and 1/640 because of the angle.

I have a cousin that works for IBM in the US and he is in the Cyber Security division. Based on their tests, Firefox was the most vulnerable when it came to security. Edge being the least vulnerable. This was almost a year ago, so much may have changed.

One external drive, USB3 or Thunderbolt2 - catalog should be on the drive along with the files. He should have a back up of that drive as well. When he travels, he takes his drives with him. Either machine can access the external drive and catalog quickly. Using a cloud service is a really slow way to do this - especially if he doesn't have the fastest internet connection in either location.

The slow internet connection - that would be the South Africa side yes.... Thanks for the advice Gene51.

You could put the catalogue on Dropbox and point each copy of Lightroom to it. As you update the catalogue on one machine Dropbox will synchronise all.

There's an idea...... But another level of complexity. I already have to deal with 2 different externals that randomly get photos uploaded to them, and then moved without using LR. I also have to deal with iCloud that gets photos sent to it and then the iPhone which send photos to Dropbox and iCloud.

Sometimes too much technology is not good either!

It will get more fun from there as I am going to guess that Lightroom will fight you from that point on. Dngallagher might be better at assisting you.

It's already fun - this guy keeps losing folders and not moving photos inside LR and then I have to find the question marks. Plus then synchronization after a few months when all devices are together again......

The first thing you need to do is move his photos & catalog to an external drive so that both the MacBook & iMac can access them.

Thanks Jethro779, will try that.
