I have not posted here in a while, and sitting at work with a quiet day.

The quality is probably not great, I have just saved them off my Facebook page....

Tom,

Thanks for the compliment! These were shot in South Africa a few weeks ago at an event called Passion for Speed Festival. I will post some more bikes and a separate post with some classics.

Again, I am posting previous Facebook posts, and if the crop looks strange, I am cropping out my watermark.

I love watching this sport on TV. I have never been to an event live though. I live in Overland Park Kansas, USA. These people who ride these bikes are NUTS. It takes really big Marbles to ride one of these, especially when they are glued together in the corners. I don 't think I could ever have done this even in my younger days when I didn't know what fear was. Thanks again for the post I love it.

These are great. If you think they are only “so-so”, I look forward to seeing what YOU think is good.

I really like the tracking shot (#1 of first sequence) with the blurred background. May not be the sharpest, but definitely conveys the power and speed. The rest of the shots tight on the riders. Very nice

These are great captures dwspv. You definitely have a knack for this kind of photography. I have never shot this sport so I can't even imagine the challenges one faces. Filling the frame is perfect. Care to share your equipment, lens, settings, etc.?
Again great work.

@david vt:
Thanks for the comment - the shots are good (if I can so so myself), but I was referring more to image quality rather than appearance. Taking photos off Facebook is a risk because of the way they compress the image, and I never know how many pixels will go AWOL when I post them here.

@Jules Karney:
Like with anything it comes down to practice and passion. I do not like wedding photography as an example, because I have no passion for that. Motorbike racing I enjoy for a number of reasons.
As for the images:
- I DO shoot in RAW
- I crop, edit, enhance, sharpen etc. in Lightroom. Photoshop is only used if I need to add a logo/ sponsors watermark etc.
- Nikon D3s and mostly 70/300 F4.5-6.3.
- Tamron 24/70 f2.8 and Nikon 20mm f1.8 in the pits
- Shutter priority: head-on shots between 1/800 and 1/1000. Panning usually not much lower than 1/160th, no VR anywhere.
- ISO depends on the day but generally between 200 and 640.
- AFS-C and back button focus.

Thanks to everyone else that has looked and commented!
