Thanks everyone for you information and time. Mnt Dog, understand acclimating to the altitude, I have backpacked Mt Rainier, and the Eagle Caps in NE Oregon reaching 9,000' +... :-) I also understand it can get crowded, I have also been to Yellowstone with people hovering over you while trying to take photos. While in the valley I plan on biking and using the shuttle to get around and leaving very early in the morning. After reading the hike from Glacier Point to the Valley will doing that also. As far as camping we will be making reservations on 14 Feb when the reservation window open for 14 June thru 15 July. I will also check out the Mist trail (get permit) to Half Dome. If the road is open will be visiting Tuolumne Meadows and Olmstead Point.

If you hike take bear spray (buy it before you leave), and get to all of the poplar areas early. After about 9:30/10 am the tour buses and very one starts showing up. Their will always be mid day traffic jams due to wildlife being close to the road. If you are out with the crowds of people plan on being stood over, (someone taking pictures right over your shoulder). I hated the crowds, love the area. I took my trip in September 2014. Have a great time....

SS- I believe that the 7D mark II has the 65 cross type focus points, unless I read your reply incorrectly....

I have a 7D mark II and love it, the fast focusing and high ISO with less noise. I shoot some sporting events and wildlife in nature with my 600mm lens mostly birds in flight. With the fast auto focus and tracking I get some great shoots.... Look on youtube there are some videos about the camera and it features....

This has been one of the dryer winters we have had in many years. You could check out some of the Portland area (Meet up) photography groups, they have events on most weekends. You should list your interests and how long you are staying.

I have the same camera as you, 60D. Last year I was looking at upgrading to the 5D mark III. After a lot of research and chatting with others I purchased a 7D mark II. I took sometime to get use to and understand the different features and autofocus options. I took my time going thru the manual and watching some youtube video and educational video from cannon. The 7D mk II is a great camera for the money. You are making a great choices. I add a few photos from a Elk trip on the 24 January 2015

I have also read that leaving the GPS turned on will also drain the battery even with the camera turned off....

The Portland, Oregon stores have changed their displays and added more canon and nikon full frame cameras. The lens selection has also gotten a lot better. For what I can tell the prices seem to be the same as the camera stores.

Response from Canon: We don't have a specific MB/second listing that the camera can handle since each card maker has a different way of measuring read and write speeds. That said, the camera can take advantage of the faster UDMA and SDXC formats available on the market.
