I've had many new Nikon bodies. I simply discard the little black plastic fill-in. They really serve no purpose if your keep your equipment stored in a clean camera bag. M.L.
You're right. But i needed a thin pliers to remove it. Evidently the track must have been crushed AFTER the black piece of plastic was inserted during manufacture. The only way I could slide it out was by using the pliers. After removal, a thin screwdriver was used to raise the tracks and then the flash slid in easily.

Dear fellow member. I was referring to a D700, not 7000.
Flash, SB800 Regards ML
Has anyone tried to mount an SB800 flash on a D700 body? M.L.
Nice,..very nice. M.L. Montreal.
. Thanks for your replies. I NEVER buy used equipment and handle my stuff very gently. Lens caps are a good example. Never lost a Leica one in 40 years.
Nikon ones fall off!! Nikon surely has an important revenue from lens cap replacements. ML
Have used Leica equipment for many. many years but switched to Nikon because visiual problems required autofocus; at the time, SLR cameras by Leica were not autofocus. Never had a problem with a Leica lens, but have had many with Nikkors.
Have purchased five lenses in seven years and four of them have broken down. Loose internal element, two jammed zooms, and broken plastic ring (80-200 2.8). It seems that their optics are good but their mechanics are very poor. Has anyone had similar experience?? M.L.
It's plagarized. I read it years ago. Why not concentrate on photography?

I guess it's a weakness of many photographers, a tendency to be more enthralled by new equipment than what you already possess and what you can do with it. I kinda' shy away from new stuff: I worry that I may give in and get rid of some very adequate equipment that has served me well and replace it with shiny new and expensive stuff. I think the marketing people depend on this to some extent to sell their wares. Regards Mort Levy Montreal/Florida.
You're right! I doubt if it's better than the Canon G10 etc., ...but the Canon is half the price. M.L. Montreal.
Wait for the grey market one. I bought a brand new grey 70-300 mm Nikkor from Adorama 4.5-5.6 for about 139$ and checked its performance against my 80-200 mm Nikkor 2.8. The difference was imperceptible, except maybe if you blew it up to 18x24. The mark-ups on lenses are obviously enormous. You're paying triple for a U.S. warranty which you'll probably never need. M.L.
Agreed. It was not Oscar material especially when considering its competition. Jimmy Carter, president at the time, commented last week how minimal the efforts of Canada were made out in the movie. As a matter of fact, he stated that the whole caper would not have been possible without Ken Taylor, (whose name was never even mentioned). K.T. was actually given a medal (or some kind of special award) by the U.S. government. Regards ML
Dear Mr. Affleck:
Congratulations on your film winning the Academy Award.
By the way, have you ever heard of Canada? It's a larger country than the U.S. situated directly to the north with a shared non-military border of 3,000 miles. It's Uncle Sam's largest trading partner, the people speak the same language, and vast numbers of Americans and Canadians are family related to each other. During the ARGO crisis in Teheran, the Canadian Ambassador and the Canadian parliament broke their own and international law by hiding a bunch of Americans caught up in the event in the Canadian embassy; the U.S. consulate was invaded and its occupants taken prisoner. Ken Taylor, an acquaintance at the time, was the Canadian ambassador and was responsible personally for the whole caper. He hid the Americans and then smuggled them out with false passports. According to ARGO, there was no such person as Ken Taylor,...there was only a guy named "Holloywood, American fiction". The sad part is that Uncle Sam gobbled it up and gave it an award. I believe several versions were made. Don't know which was supposed to be superior but I'm certain that they were all pretty good performers. Thanks M.L.
