I have a "rock crawler" ..... Why not have a hobby that rivals photography for cost? LOL

Plenty of competitive high school shooting teams here in the south .... come on down! Skeet and trap, rifle and American 3 gun are some that I am aware of.

I was fortunate to come from a family of competitive shooters. We had a smallbore (.22) range in our basement and I used to shoot 12 rounds every day after school. Two sighters and ten rounds for record.

When I mention that I used to shoot in matches at various schools and colleges, people are astounded. I never even heard of any school related shootings until recently. In the sixth grade I gave a talk on firearm safety to my class. I first had a dry-run with the principal who gave his approval on the condition I wouldn't bring live ammunition. Times have changed.

The new Canon 100-400 II will auto focus fine on the 5d@ and the 5D3, as well as the 1DX. The references to the 7D II is that they were designed together. And they do work well together, but the lens also works well on my 5D III and my 1DX

Why can’t you at least read the instructions? Would you treat a national contest the same way, willy-nilly submitting work based on the title?

As someone that has judged local, state and national photographic competitions I can answer your question .... Yes, yes they would submit entries willy-nilly .... And they do! So many examples that it would take all day to list them.

Many of us appreciate your efforts ..... Thank You

I was witness to this event. The photographer had numerous opportunities to get up and get away from the young elk. The photog discovered that if he lowered his head the young elk would think they were playing and head butt him .... it was only until the elk started ramming the photog hard that it was no longer a game for this fool.

This entire situation lasted 23 minutes (from my first photo until the last one) I have images of the photographer taking photos himself ... of him "chimping" his images .... changing a lens, etc. All were sent to the park Rangers. A couple of us were yelling at him to get up and walk away ... the video does not show a period when the young elk was a good 10-15 yards away from him .... perfect time to end the event ..... instead he lowered his head and coaxed the elk back.

This was not an innocent photographer .... he knew what he was doing! He proudly posted images all over his Facebook page and a couple of photography forums. All were eventually removed.

The young elk was euthanized because of this event and more in part due to it's habit of begging for food. I have images from this day of the elk with it's head in an open window of an suv, looking for food

Will it really be that much different than a Rays or Astros home game, late in the season???

My thoughts ...... If you shoot low light sports the 7D II is not as good or even close to the low light capabilities of the 1DX. Having said that the frames per second is comparable, the 7D II is much better than the old 7D as far as low light iso, etc.

It's hard to beat a good 400 f/2.8 lens for sports action. You don't give an idea of how much your budget is which might help on suggestions.

What about a used 1D Mark IV? I have both the 1DX and the 7D II bodies as well as a 5D Mark III body ...... The 1DX is an amazing camera body ..... But having great glass is more important in the long run

The Subaru Crosstrek has the same "non spare" repair kit, for the same reason. The normal spare / jack area is now full of hybrid battery. This is an incredibly stupid idea. Do you want your live at home son or daughter dealing with this" Your wife?

I personally would not let my new car purchase be swayed by the dealership owner being a brother-in-law. Buy the vehicle that you like / want and make no apologies for you choice. But that's just me
