Hello Inbigd
check out my website to see all my photos are taken with a Panasonic G5. This is a highly under rated camera and to be honest it is great for what it is. Full touch screen focus and capture. Complete swivel screen. With some lenses the camera photos can look quite soft but this is down to lenses. The lenses I use are... 45m F1.8 olympus lens...very sharp for portraits.... olympus four thirds lens 14-54mm with adapter which is brilliant on my G5...... I also use Olympus fourthirds (not micro fourthirds) 70-300mm with same adapter I use on the 14-54mm. If I was you get the best lenses you can afford wether Panasonic or Olympus... Panasonic 12-35mm F 2.8 and 35-100mm F2.8 and you have a winning combination. For longer reach the Panasonic 100-300mm mk11 is a great lens. The camera is a great base for the best lenses you can put on it...don't be dis heartened by the camera... the G5 is a great camera. I am looking at adding the Gh5 or Olympus Omd EM1 Mk11 camera but for the life of me I cannot make up my mind which to get. I am kind of leaning to the Olympus because I am more of a stills shooter then video user but they are both so good... sigh... anyway enjoy your Camera... check out my Lake District photos...
regards
Lance

Has anyone tested one yet? I wonder how the noise level compares with the 60D. Because the sensor is a few stops faster, I would presume the noise has gone down too at the lower ISO's.

This covers the Canon 80D and talks about ISO's against other models which do look quite impressive.

SirLan- thanks for posting the u tube video re the Panasonic 100-400 mm lens. It looks like a good fit after all to the the Gx8 camera. It would be great to see some images with that combination by UHH members when available- Fergus? Bill? :)

I looked at the specs on Gx8 camera- tempting. But I could not see if it is weather resistant which would be important to me.

And Fergus- I too would like to know your experience with the Panasonic 100-300 mm lens. I tried the Olympus 75-300mm lens and did not like the results- could very well have been user related but could not get a sharp edge most of the time.

I agree it looks good with the Gx8....the Gx8 is waterproof and dust proof which is also one reason it goes on my list too...20mp new sensor interests me too.

That's the one! I'm buying it from a local shop. I've been able take the camera outside and play with it. Even on Auto it out shoots my G7. I'm not complaining about the G7. It was a good introduction to 4/3 cameras for me, and much of the menu is the same also, and not to forget I have some awesome photos of Scotland and of my home and family the past holidays from the G7.

That sounds good to me...look forward to knowing how you get on with it after the G7...the size is supposed to be bigger...is that a plus point or a minus? be interested to know how you get on with it...I am tempted myself but I am so attracted to the Sony A7R ii with a Batis 85mm lens and I would be in heaven...sigh...
I think the Gx8 with a Batis 85mm lens might be close to heaven too :)
or the new new pani 100-400mm might be the best for wildlife?
How was your pani 100-300mm? was that good for wildlife?

I'm in the mist of changing my direction with my Panasonic G7. The G7 does not have a true stabilization in camera. With the exception of 2 of my primes all of my lenses have OIS. I have decided to upgrade the camera before I purchase any more lenses. With the trade-in of my 9 mo. G7 the new G8 will cost it 800.00. It has OIS and a slightly larger sensor with more pixels. It also has a setting to use together the OIS in the camera and the OIS in Panasonic lenses. I have the Panasonic 100-300 with Mega OIS. It cost 550.00 when I bought my camera. It's not a fast lens, 4.00-5.6 but I'm hoping that the boost in stabilization will give me good shots. Most of my birding is done in good light so f4 OIS at 250 (500 for you non-4/3ers) plus camera with larger sensor with more pixels and OIS.
If this doesn't satisfy me I'll wait for the new a Panasonic/Leica that will be out
soon. The rumor is 100-300 f4 OIS. Haven't read of the price tag but you can beat that it will beat Olys price on their 40-150 f2.8 @1300.00 which I read that it does beautiful work but it won't couple the OIS of lens to camera that a Pana will do with my G8. Panasonic G8 with OIS is putting Panasonic on a roll.

Do you mean the Panasonic Gx8? which has a new 20mp sensor...thats the way I would go but I am so tempted to go for the Sony A7R ii...I keep going back to that camera...as for the panasonic lens its a 100-400mm and looks great to me...a bit pricey but they all are when they are new.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU182bZ1WIQ looks good to me here :) and with the Gx8

I had the EM-1 and liked the size and build but the images are way too noisy to suit me.

IMO a 9MP crop from a D800E is better by far...

100% agree...

Be a man and admit that you were wrong. I don't give a hoot what YOU think of the camera system, you said no pro uses them for pro work which is simply not true.

So that is what this boils down too? You just want to make a point that you have a camera that a pro somewhere on earth has had success with? I accept that is possible it is a good camera but not a pro camera which is my point. If I agree to this you will not insult me again or miss quote my words for your own gratification? I do not accept that a pro would only use this camera for pro work...sorry it is not good enough...that is my point of view. You do not have to agree with me...that is the point of a forum...to express ones point of view...no insults here now....

[Are you saying that the EM1 is a pro body used by pro's? if you are you are more stupid then your comment.] Maybe that was a bit strong of me to say but lets face it you and I will never see eye to eye :)

I said worse, because according to his signature he actually uses a gh4. It wouldn't sound as bad if he was shooting a DSLR. Kind of like saying that a Subaru would not be good off road even though you drove one.

I use them as my walk about cameras and never for pro work...they are not yet good enough...that is my point of view....stop giving me yours....the Panasonic gh4 takes great video but I do not think it is good enough in the picture quality to rate it a pro camera...I don't do pro video......SORRY THAT IS MY POINT OF VIEW. Seeing as the Olympus omd em1 is often ranked along side the GH4 in quality how can you call it a pro camera for pro work...you see I can't...I am entitled my point of view...my view was not meant as advice for all...just my point of view...maybe you don't like the truth being said./..you would prefer I said how great the camera was as a pro camera? no chance...it is mid range and you know it.

If I had one I'd give you an award for being the "most ignorant" ape. Just because YOU don't know pros who use m4/3 for pro work, that means NO pro uses them? Do you even get how narcissistic that sounds? You are one ignorant ape. I call you an ape because you act like one.

You have taken innocent words and made that the point of your ignorance towards me....you are the lowest ape mate...you are a cave man...I don't have to justify my comments to you...cavemen only see the surface....The only ape here is the one making this into something it is not...if you don't like me that is your point of view but do not slag me off...seriously mate you are not in my league...

For Olympus and Panasonic users (m 4/3) - any of you thinking of purchasing the Panasonic 100-400 mm lens or the Olympus 300 mm f4 lens when released?

Anyone feeling a bit let down (maybe a lot let down) after waiting what seems like forever for the Olympus 300 mm f4 lens only to discover the size, weight and price? I do.

Referring to the Olympus 300 mm f4 is anyone wondering what is the point of producing such a huge lens for a small camera? I do.

Am I missing something here?

Sorry I think this has gone of off the subject here....
I agree with you I am not impressed with the price of the Olympus 300mm.. that is my main bug bear...I like the Panasonic more but still that is a high price too but half that of the Olympus...
I am using a manual 100- 500mm 5.6-8.0 Vivitar olympus four thirds fit as my wild life lens but it is hard work...hand held is very hard to get sharp without a tri-pod :)
I will be watching this space to see more on this subject I could do with a better lens for wild life...

Whatever you believe you believe...but I do not know one Pro Photographer who goes out and shoots pro work with a Olympus EM1...that is all I said...I do not believe that is a pro camera...as for shooting for National Geographic is about composition not pro cameras...to me not pro work...so maybe we are missing what we mean as pro work...which is another question :)

Just because you shoot with one does not make it a pro camera...lol
