Interesting choice of subjects. I took a number of trips on the Pelee Islander in my youth.

One thing I neglected to mention clearly in my posting about 2 external SSDs connected through a Thunderbolt connection: one of the external SSDs IS my boot drive. The bandwidth of the Thunderbolt connection and SSD makes for much, much faster boot (startup) and software load than the internal hard drive with its mechanical and rotational delays. It isn’t even close. My other obvious choice was to exchange the internal HDD with an internal SSD. I didn’t feet that was a necessary step.

I boot off the external 2TB SSD and store files on it and back up on the other and the internal HDD.
The external SSD is wildly faster booting and in use than the internal HDD.

I assume you will catch a ferry over from somewhere on Catawba Island. On your way there, if you like cheeses of any kind, stop by CheeseHaven on route 53. If you have spare time on the mainland, I personally love the Marblehead lighthouse. It is on the east end of Catawba Island, which is functionally a peninsula

If the two computers are Macs, you can AirDrop from one to another. I have done folders that way. Very slick. You initiate the transfer on one, and have to accept on the other.

Ouch, that hurt. Been there, done that, need the shirt. Working on the "ex-" part at $300/hr.

Interesting, the dead film thing. ;-)

At the WPPI convention of wedding and portrait photographers, I was able to pick up a few free (!) rolls of Kodak film in 120 and 35mm. Since my use is to take pictures of my wife's artwork, I went for the Portra series of color negative film, which has their "truest" colors. Of course, I take lots of pictures with my digital Nikons in addition to with the F4, N90S, etc. and Pentax 645N.

There is no bad way to take pictures! There are tradeoffs with everything related to photography...... unless your camera is sitting on a shelf somewhere dying a slow death.

Get out there, shoot and have fun!

External CD/DVD drive using Thunderbolt or USB3 port. A USB superdrive from Apple will run you $79 from the Apple store. It is only USB2, but still quite serviceable. There are likely other/better/faster options, but the Superdrive is guaranteed to work.
