Reading through the replies it does seem like you've lost the files.

I usually take the SD card out and put it into my laptop to download. You could try attaching your camera to the computer and downloading that way? I know Sony have differnet folders for different types of files. You say there's no break in the sequence shot so IF the files were recoded the only thing that strikes me is the group photo's have gone into anoher folder for some reason.

Google and see if anyone else has had a similar issue.

It’s the quality of the sensor and lenses rather than the size of the sensor!

If all the experts think that full frame equals better than crop then why aren’t they using Medium Format?

I have the 100-400 and I find it sharp to 400mm....so that’s 800mm optical reach! On the Panasonic the quality is very good with x2 digital zoom giving you 1600mm. X4 digital and you can easily see noise but it is 3200mm in full frame equivalent reach!

I used it on my G80 for bird photography. Focus often hits the branch instead of the bird and it’ll hunt to get correct focus. Same problem on G9. I tried different settings with no noticeable improvement.

I also have the Oly 75-300mk2. The lens is much lighter and a quarter the cost of the Pan 100-400. Unless you need the extra reach this is the better option. It’s a very good capable lens and better value.

To get 800mm optical on an APS-C or full frame system you talking thousands of pounds or dollars. As far as I know there’s nothing better for the reach snd the money than the Pan 100-400. It’s not perfect but it’s very very good quality image wise.

Others have mentioned it can be fragile mounted on some cameras. I remove it when not in use and it’s being carried.

,Sony, Fuji , Olympus all now in the race you say?

They were in the race well before Canon and Nikon!

Although Nikon came out with the mirrorless Nikon V1 in 2011 they fell behind.

Fuji have jumped ahead into the mirrorless Medium Format system...if you think a bigger sensor is better then they’re ahead of the game!

I’ve used Picasa for years and it was an absolutely brilliant prigram for downloading and organising albums. It had loads of features like bulk e-mailing, GPS mapping, but they have been deliberately disabled by Google as they want users to use Google Photos.

Deleting and redownloading will make no difference.

I still use it for downloading and basic edits (eg straightening, cropping) before right clicking into the various editors I use depending what I need to do. Google automatically picks up the edited photo in the same folder. It’s really smart. It’s a shame Google half killed its functionality as over the years I’ve tried many programs and none work like Picasa used to.

It’s still pretty neat but the bulk e-mailing and GPS picture location features now gone we’re pretty slick!

If anyone knows a program like Picasa was let me know!

Take a few SD cards - they're as cheap as chips!

You ought also to take a small storage device and back them up daily. SD cards (and storage devices) do fail !

Enjoy the trip.........I've done Alaska twice. Awesome.

Fuji film make the best cameras and have the best customer service...........plus firmware updates when possible.

You should look at the Fuji XT-20 and a couple of lenses. Plus, what you see in the viewfinder is what you get!

Even Nikon and Canon are getting in on the mirrorless scene as so many photographers are switching they realsie they're losing out!

Picasa for downloading and cataloging and quick basic edits. Then Smart Photo Editor and PhotoDirector 9 for other edits. Also DxO and On1 (mostly Fuji RAW).

In the UK it refers to goods that are imported (usually from Hong Kong) where VAT has not been paid on the item. Having said that, you are saving a substantial amount. The sellers very often provide their own warranty, sometimes in the UK. I've been buying 'grey' market goods for years and never had a problem and have saved a hell of a lot of money.
Even if you do not buy 'grey' market goods, and buy from authorised dealers, they very often look for ways not to honour the guarantee or warranty if they possibly can.
Essentially they are the same goods you would buy in the UK but maybe 20-30% cheaper!

I got error messages when trying to update my EM1. It turned out to be that the usb mode was not set to storage. Sometimes error messages don't reveal the real problem.
Gears--display pc--usb mode--set to storage.
Hope this works for you.

And whatever you do make sure you don't disconnect before the update is done however how long it takes!

Easy--download the photos from Picasa to your desktop and attach the photo to your e-mail. That's the way I've always done it. I think it's an easier way to compose whatever message you want and then simply attach the photo.

Yours is one way of doing it but it's the slowest!

In Picasa you can select a whole album's photo's and send them in one go! The person receives 1 e-mail with the photo's attached. It is VERY slick and FAST!

Thank you for replying. I currently have no trouble with Picasa, but am concerned that it might not work on a future new Mac (with an upgraded operating system). I'm now using Yosemite which is probably as high as my aging Mac should go.

I agree with you about Picasa being a great go-to application and don't understand why Google stopped supporting it.

Furthermore, I really liked Google's online Picasa photo storage service which they have (again inexplicably) moved to the much worse Google Photos.

More often than not, things don't change for the better! At least Picasa is still useable...........I just wish some of the other photo software developing companies would take a leaf
out of their book and make things simple AND powerful.

Their level and crop tool are so quick - why do others make theirs so convoluted?!

I've kept a copy of the Picasa download programme on my hard drive in case I change computers in the future.

As far as I know it'll always be available for download, somewhere, but why not save yourself a copy just in case?

The only programme that I have seen that comes close is Xn View and Fast Stone image viewer but nothing is as good as Picasa! Why they
stopped developing it I cannot understand..........many of us would pay for it - it's that good!!!!
