Picasa Problem

I was under the impression that my Picasa program was still "functional" but, to my dismay, discovered that I am unable to email photos from my computer, all of which are stored in Picasa. I have over 50,000 pictures in Picasa on my MacBook Pro dating from the early 20th century. These pictures are irreplaceable. I refuse to believe that I can't work around this problem and ask one of you knowledgeable fellow hogs to kindly help me solve this dilemma. Thanks in advance for your help.

Easy--download the photos from Picasa to your desktop and attach the photo to your e-mail. That's the way I've always done it. I think it's an easier way to compose whatever message you want and then simply attach the photo.

Sounds like you need to replace Picasa with something newer and current. There are many choices, but the good news is that your photos are still there. Others here will offer various solutions. I recommend Adobe Lightroom. 👍👍

Picasa does not store your photos, only organizes them. They are stored on your computer and the actual copy is on your hard drive. Picasa just cataloques them and gives you access to find them. Any program will find them and you can edit or send, organize them to your own preference. You can use lightroom or any other program. Your camera should have a program that will do all of that.

Reading this, I fired up the old Picasa 3 app on my iMac, selected a photo in Picasa, and was able to email it using my default email application (Mac Mail) - Not sure why you can't do that, unless perhaps you never set up the Mail app on your computer and relied on Picasa only.

Note - Picasa does not "contain" any photos, they are all on your hard disk and Picasa only knows where they are - using Finder you can look in any folder on your computer to find your photos and share them in many ways thru your Mac.

Many people who use a program, other than their email client for emailing photos, seem to be confused by that. Your photos, as "Old Timer" points out, are stored on your hard drive, not in the "program". Find one file name of a photo and search your hard drive for the file. You will quickly find where your photos are stored.
Good luck on finding your photos. They are not lost.

Thanks very much. Perhaps I lost the ability to email pictures after one of the upgrades. How do I set up my mail app? Also, how do I get the pictures onto my desktop if that allows me to email?

I've used the Picasa app for years because it has a quick and easy function to adjust image angle. I just move a "slider" to see the angle adjustment.

Eventually, I'll replace my aging iMac after which I may lose Picasa.

Question: what other applications have easy angle adjustments?

Thank you.

Picasa is a superb program and it should still work as sweet as the day you installed it. Mine does.

It sounds like you've done something...... go into Tools / Options / E-mail and check what you have selected.

There's nowt wrong with Lightroom except the learning curve but in my lowly opinion Picasa is far more powerful for downloading, sorting, tagging, quick edits,
etc etc., and e-mailing than LR will ever be.

You should be able to sort it out - it's just been corrupted for some reason. Even Google have said it will still function - just that they're not developing it further.

I've kept a copy of the Picasa download programme on my hard drive in case I change computers in the future.

As far as I know it'll always be available for download, somewhere, but why not save yourself a copy just in case?

The only programme that I have seen that comes close is Xn View and Fast Stone image viewer but nothing is as good as Picasa! Why they
stopped developing it I cannot understand..........many of us would pay for it - it's that good!!!!

Thank you for replying. I currently have no trouble with Picasa, but am concerned that it might not work on a future new Mac (with an upgraded operating system). I'm now using Yosemite which is probably as high as my aging Mac should go.

I agree with you about Picasa being a great go-to application and don't understand why Google stopped supporting it.

Furthermore, I really liked Google's online Picasa photo storage service which they have (again inexplicably) moved to the much worse Google Photos.

More often than not, things don't change for the better! At least Picasa is still useable...........I just wish some of the other photo software developing companies would take a leaf
out of their book and make things simple AND powerful.

Their level and crop tool are so quick - why do others make theirs so convoluted?!

Yours is one way of doing it but it's the slowest!

In Picasa you can select a whole album's photo's and send them in one go! The person receives 1 e-mail with the photo's attached. It is VERY slick and FAST!
