Having experienced this, Abi, the main issue I struggle with is retaining instructions. Written, I can work with, by rereading. Watching a video, then attempting to recreate the demonstration, not possible. Had someone try and show me, he was left handed, I am right handed. All these add to the frustration. If I could offer a piece of advice to this process, please remember your patience. Which ever way the injury occurred, it will affect the person in a unique and individual way. Just writing this i have backspaced and stopped to think how to present what I want to say. Hoping you can help this organization, best wishes with your effort.

A large enough plastic bag (rubbish bag) to cover all equipment you have with you. We may think of rain, I didn't allow for a dust storm. Close enough to the car, could have been worse. Sometimes the weather forecast has a holiday too.

All thumbs up, for the Critique crew. Agree whole heartedly with the praise offered for this section. Have asked for and received help, which I feel has already helped me to improve what I do. Through asking and applying that advise.I would like to gratefully thank all those involved. Has opened my sense of desire to improve, not sure if I was stale or bogged.Or maybe stuck in a teckno phobia related trench.

This is one STRANGE effect. I can read the QuikShade label on the dark canopy and see other details like Local Organic Coffee (whatever that is) near the center, but the entire life of the picture is blurred. I have seen Ross and other artists do this with oil, acrylics, even spray paints, but never with a photo.

Not surprising, the centre of the photo, the focus point around the lady in "pink' is the area that the focus pull has occurred from. Depending on the amount of pull as to how great this effect is, a small amount of zoom movement will give a small spread. If you look at the person pushing the pram, one leg is starting to blur, the other is in focus. That is how effective this style can be. Moving the camera while pulling the zoom will distort the image on a different angle. Fun and confusing. Maybe. Behind this Lady the people etc are blurring as well.

See what you learn here. Never thought of putting a couple of those packs in my camera bag. Have a large rubbish bag in case of being caught in a rain shower, and some insects shower from trees in the summer here. Common sense isn' that common any more. Thanks Shelia.

If you could find a position with the leaves closer to the nut I think the composition would be improved. You have two separate subjects that should be related to each other but the color pulls one way and the texture in the nuts another.

Thank you Shelia, I can see that now, afterwards looking at the image, though happy with the overall effect it was jarring me that something needed improvement. Several ways of doing so have been suggested. One of the reasons I didn't stay to get more shots was the hordes of mosquito's, they were coming in by the waves. However from posting here I have received advice on how to improve and now intend going out and practising more. So glad that I have posted here, it would have taken longer to improve. Thanks to people like yourself that should happen sooner. Time and clicks will tell.

Mike Thank you for your reply. Have loaded GIMP, and am at the beginning of that curve.Am also learning that is the next step I need to take with my photography. At first, thought I would not need to go that far. As I have learnt/ improved I have appreciated the need for this step. People like yourself have helped me to make these changes, seems inadequate to just say Thanks. I am in awe of Shakeys ability to put together the tutorials that he does, also grateful. I have been reading some of them, he has helped me to see the process. The scary part for me is pulling that all together. With time and practice, I am sure I will do so. It would be an honour to be able to pass some help on, in the manner I have received.
I am from the Thames area NI, originally how about yourself, which area are you based?

Golly, Rob, finally a chance to take a legitimate shot at you and there's not much to say.

Seriously though, it appears that the sense of movement on the right side is less than that on the left side. Any ideas why?

Having a stab at explaining the difference. I like this style, have played with this a bit. Possibly, zooming, has caused the camera to move to the right, fractionally, depending zoom method, twisting the barrel. The reason I offer this, the gazebo behind the moving man has a degree of movement at the top as well, evenly spaced on that side of the shot. This movement, camera, may have been very slight to cause this. The smaller movements tend to have better effect/appeal. Like this image, well presented, IMHO.

Seeing this develop into where we are now, discussing the merits of posting. After reading Captain C's 'article'. I decided it was time for me to swallow my pride and ask for help. This forum, in general has helped me to improve, by looking and learning. Now I have learnt I was holding myself back by thinking too much, of why I shouldn't post in this area. After posting and receiving assistance/advice, I believe I am moving forward again. This has occurred in the last few days, I would not hesitate to ask again, adding to this I have learnt to be more precise with my request. What is the worst that could happen-nobody replies to your request, how likely is that to happen here. As you pointed out you have learnt by observing here, so who would you help by posting one of your images. Best of luck with your choice. Thanks to all those who assist those asking for help.

You do have a clear point of interest, but they do get lost in the dark green background and my eye goes to the golden leaves. I had to do a google search on gum nuts to be sure this is possible, but I think the photo would be more appealing with an odd number of nuts and with the leaves snugged in closer to the nuts. There is just too much distance between the nuts and the leaves. You could reduce this by another angle or just finding a different set of them.
You have used the rule of thirds in your composition and that is good.
It looks like your focus is good on the nuts, but the lighting could be improved by shooting in the golden hour or sunrise or sunset.
You do have a clear point of interest, but they do... (show quote)

Thank you Country's Mama, I appreciate your response. This image came about through a combination of new camera/lens. Also trying a new approach to getting an image range like this. There were nuts bunched with green leaves, but I could not get their position to work with the background, to achieve what I was after. I chuckled when you said about he golden hour, because the mosquito population would have left my camera and bones, as it was one shot had me heading for cover.
Thanks to what I have learnt from posting this image here I have plenty to work on, with equipment and computer skills. In future, with more attention to the advice I have received I hope my images will be worth viewing.

Liberal application of a number of NIK Collection filters Viveza2 and Color Efex Pro 4.

Bob, thanks for your time and effort you have applied to this image. At the moment I feel I am in the deep end of the pool and drowning not waving. I am lost as to what the filters are you mention. Are they in a specific editing program or external stand alone items. I had posted an image in the general topic area, was advised "dodging" would help the image. Okay so now I am at the point where with a 'little' more understanding I have some hope of achieving desired result, before the century ends. Too stubborn to stop trying.

Thanks Bill, at the time those leaves held more appeal as they were, where they were. Have learnt a lot from taking that shot, and posting it here.
