Hello everyone,

I’m looking for a decent Carbon Fiber Monopod for my Nikon D750. I would like to be able to interchange the foot to 3 legs. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

You might try Deswood Yazzie in Chinle. www.arizonacanyonjeeptours.com. We were fortunate to be escorted by the very respected Sylvia Watchman. She had us in the canyon from early morning until well after light loss. Her story telling was superb, as was her knowledge of the canyon. Much more there than meets the lens. Showing some respect for the ways of the Navajo in their home will open some doors closed to others. The ancestors are around every corner.

Can anyone recommend a tour operator that best accomodates photographers? The tours I've seen on-line are either at 9:00 am, mid-day or 4:00 pm, not good times for photography. Also, would a 4-hour tour be a better choice and do the tours go to essentially the same sites?

Along with all of the above, listen to your guide. They have been there before.

Sorry, but a lot of AZ does change. Namely the Navajo and Hopi Nations. And, that is a lot of territory. Just imagine, two rush hours at some small towns' only stop light. Better make that rush minutes.

I was marking my calendar for upcoming March Appointments, and I noticed that on Sunday, March 12th, America will go into Daylight Savings Time. It was just 4 months ago that the hour went backwards. One third of the year is Standard, the other two thirds is Daylight Savings. Arizona says we ain't a Changing! Never. Perhaps a good idea for all States. Changing clocks once again. A bummer.

Triple your experience on that train by booking on a car called the Silver Bullet.

Thanks for the info.

Got any idea as to where you are going? Or, is that in hiding also?

Thinking I'm going to have to camp out to get some of the shots I want. Haven't camped since I was in the Boy Scouts. Haven't the slightest idea how to go about it. If I need to hike 6 or 8 miles into a park to get a shot, how would I get a tent, mess kit, etc. plus all my photography gear in there? Any experienced landscape people who can give me a clue. I want to stop by Cabella's and see what's there but I want to know the right questions to ask.

FYI. All reservations in AZ are DTS. Everywhere else is not.

Found it, now I have to figure out how to use it! As I said, I'm not knowledgeable about astronomy or lat. & long. references.

I have been using a Sunrise/Sunset website for years in order to print a calendar for my trips showing the sunrise/sunset and moonrise/moonset for each zone that I will be traveling in. It helps that it takes into consideration Daylight Savings Time (or not, as in AZ) for each location. As I recall, Monument Valley DOES observe DST.

Just an old dog!

I had the opportunity to use a Panasonic LZ 1000 on a road trip in late July through mid September. Left Seattle in smoke, and stayed in smoke to Billings just to get a UHH pin from Carter at the Cottage; and a Field Vest which was screaming at me from a hanger. And info that the smoke only would dissipate by getting into Colorado. As per usual, Carter's advice was dead on.
The captures are all hand held at ISO 125 from the highway (MT 212) looking at the Bear's Tooth, about 6 miles away by my map.
So much to do in the area, Colorado almost did not happen. But it did, which will be another entry.

Adams it is. Nice, so very nice.

Hoops, I've been up to St Helens a few times. I always go to the East side out of Cougar and do the Ape Canyon Trail(# 234).
There are great shots of the backside of Helens, Muddy Creek and the surrounding areas to the east. I like the Plains of Abraham.
The Ape trail is NOT an easy trail. I do it on a Mtn Bike and the way back is ALL down hill(well, some of it is).
I took this shot in August a few years ago from the top of the Ape Canyon at the start of the Plains of Abraham. Don't know which Mtn it is(maybe Adams). There probably has not been near as much water lately so probably not a great wildflower year. Good luck on your trip! ;-)

PS, just know that the backside has no phone service of ANY type!

Yes, I have it in use on a 750. Just could not justify the bucks for the 70-200. Very satisfied.

Has anyone used this lens? I currently use Nikon 24mm 2.8, 35mm 1.8G DX, 50mm 1.8D, 85mm 1.8G and the 300mm f4 D most of the time. I have moved to primarily using prime lenses for their sharpness and low light capability. I have the 18-300 3.5-5.6 DX but find it soft in too many shots. I have a Nikon d7100 and am considering this lens, but want to hear from others about its sharpness and any other consideration I should know about buying one. Thanks in advance for your insights

For Rainier find a little town called Mineral. Takes you off the much beaten, in the Park main roads. For St Helens, you might try Windy Ridge. Spirit Lake is there, but be very early-it is windy indeed.

I am headed to Portland in August to shoot Mt. Hood, Oregon and Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Rainier in Washington. I found some great vantage points for Mt. Hood the last time I was there in April, but would like suggestions on the best vantage points for Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens. I would prefer to capture them looking across a lake if possible.

Any other points that should not be missed are welcome as well.

Thanks

I'm heading over the mountains June 1 to Chelan, WA. Any tips on some best places to photograph? I will have my dogs with me so if there is hiking involved it will need to allow dogs. Also, there will be a full moon at the time. I've never tried the moon so that could be fun. Thanks for tips.
