For me I used a 24-105 in Venice, but the trip your going on, if you can afford it, take a 16-35 with you. Extra width might come in handy sometimes. ( Not Heavy )

You live in a beautiful part of the country, my thought is you want photos for your wall ? look for an old 24-105 IS , sometimes you can find them cheap. It fits the Rebel XTI and will also fit a full frame. When I got my XTI my son bought it for me, as I was working on a small budget, still am. It's a great lens and will serve you well.

I like the first one also. When I get here to make photos it it always cloudy. Once I caught it sunny but peaks less than clear. Great spot and I like yours photos.
