I'm glad I stumbled into this thread. It reminds me that being rude costs a lot more than being kind, especially when you are rude to nice people who know what they are doing.
It costs many friends in the long run and friends are mighty nice things to have. There are so many good ones here and many who have left because of rudeness, when it was the rude ones who should be gone, not the good ones.

If you can get someone to read the posts for you ftpecktim never said anything about your bad manners but you certainly keep adding to you pile of crap. I am the only one who pulled you up on your bad manners so once again call my names but don't carry on with your bully tactics and continue to try to drag others into the fray. I am very new to Ugly and was given a brief list of photographers to be looked up and admired. ftpecktim, Sinatraman, Tilde, Wendy2, and several others. I have spent countless hours looking at their work and also delighted to see that each and every one of them gave freely there time and skillful answers to all us , in some cases lost causes. I have not seen one case of "Bullying" except from one or two, puffed up self opinionated people who's mouths and brains do not match the skills of needed to be a great human being. I am sorry you bumped into one today. The work you did on the bird in the post was superb in every way. You deserve great Kudos for that, not abuse from another Hedgehogger. I cannot apoloze for his bad behaviour but like all illiterate individuals they don't understand that you apologize when you foul up. I asked another ex Ugly poster why he stopped posting and he said it was not for the hundreds of great members but for the one or two ignorant foul mouthed individuals.

Another perfect example of the "warm and friendly" atmosphere here. Being called a "sniveling poster" for pointing out that only 2 of us answered the actual question asked doesn't really say much for the rude outbursts that followed.

You forgot to mention the 431 other posts I've replied to with answers, helpful comments, suggestions, or photos as examples. Well they are very impressive stats indeed for such an educated and wonderful human being

I am sitting in Kennedy Airport waiting for a delayed flight or else I would not have bothered with your drivel. Photographers on Ugly Hedgehog are (or see to be) revered for the photographs they post and the advice they offer to others. Tolerance for people who break the codes of good manners are viwed with distain. If there are any spelling or grammatical mistakes they are deliberate to make you feel at home!

Now I can spend an hour viewing the magic of ftpecktim!s collection of photographs.

Jim Kim.
Thanks to you for all your supportive PM's.

First, he didn't say he was "ditching" Lightroom. Second "three" is spelled t-h-r-e-e not t-r-e-e. Third, I don't care how many posts you've made, your responses were still rude attacks. You are among one of quite a few here that need to grow up.

This is one of the problems with this forum, there are quite a few people that don't really want to help anyone, they just want to promote their pet progams or show off their so-called"skill" at fixing problem photos.

tainkc's trouble is he referred to his picture as a 'portrait'.
This arouses in the viewer the expectation some degree of contrivance and deliberation.
This would perhaps have allowed and required required use of secondary illumination and the nice choice of pose.
What he actually took was an excellent sharp candid picture.
He should have left it at that.

A portrait is simply a likeness of a person, nothing more, nothing less. There are candid portraits, formal portraits, evironmental portraits, sports portraits, group portraits. tainkc's photo definately looks like a portrait... a candid portrait, which is still a portrait.

adds to the conversation.

I can't understand that either lesdmd, why give an answer that has nothing to do with the question?

I took this picture of a Kingfisher and would like to remove the vines in the background. I have lightroom 4 not PS. Can this be done in LR4 and which tool should I try? I am new at this.

Thanks for any help.

Lightroom does have a Spot Removal tool that is basicly a clone and healing brush. It's in the Develope Module. It looks like a circle with an arrow on the side of the circle pointing to the right. That could work, but it would be awkward to use for for removing those branches. It's really meant for removing dust "spots" or small areas.

You might consider Photoshop Elements as a good complement to Lightroom for those times when you need that "little extra" that Lightroom can't do. It's not a huge investment and has some nice features, like the content aware healing brush that would take out those branches in no time.

Thaks to lesdmd for also answering the question that was actually asked. It never ceases to amaze me how many times someone asks a question here and the thread is filled with responses that either completely ignore or don't answer the original question.

Once I knew what I wanted, I had to chase him around without interfering and at the same time keeping in mind the lighting and the background. I usually get one little thing in the background that messes everything up and can not be photoshopped out.

Pretty good candid shot. It's a shame about the lighting. It's understandable since you were taking candid shots, not portraits, so you couldn't be able to use something to reflect the light back onto his face. As far as the "3/4" issue, when a kid is running around you take what you can get. This would not have been a keeper for me though because of that patch of light on his nose.

Here's a link to a video by Jared Polin on photographing kids. It's a photoshoot he did of a boy in a park, and he shot in manual. It's got some great tips. The first minute and a half of the 16 minute video is a plug for his beginner photography guide. Once past that, it's all good information that you might find helpful the next time you attempt this.

How do you get your name on your photos? I have Lightroom 4. Is the watermark what you use to put your name on your photos? I've tried doing that but I cant get it to save to my presets. Any suggestions?

To add your name to a photo in Lightroom 4 from any module go to the Edit menu and choose Edit Watermarks. The Watermark Editor will open. You can choose a Watermark Style of either Text or Graphic (you will have to have a png or jpg graphic to import if you choose graphic). You can choose a Font, Style, Alignment, and text color. There are also various effects you can choose. Under the thumbnail of your photo is a box where you can add your text and you how it will look on the thumbnail.

OK I'm planning on going out Sunday to take some new pics I have heard that photographers prefer to take pics mostly in the evening due to sunlight I'm assuming.....due to the fact its supposed to be freezing by that evening I'm going out late morning early afternoon are there any tips or suggestions I should know about regarding glare from the sun or anything like that? I just want good pictures not affected by glares or anything

I think you may be refering to the "golden hour", which is the 1st hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset which gives everything a "golden glow". Most photographers prefer to shoot early to mid morning or early evening because of the angle of the light and the softer shadows. The closer you are to noon, the more "harsh" the shadows are and the light coming from directly overhead is more difficult to deal with.
