I took this picture of a Kingfisher and would like to remove the vines in the background. I have lightroom 4 not PS. Can this be done in LR4 and which tool should I try? I am new at this.

Thanks for any help.

Not sure if you can do it in Lightroom. I don't have it.

If you click the store
original,They are easier to work with, gave it a try.I used the clone tool in cs5+. Also touched up the image overall.

...and so far no one has answered the original question. I use lightroom and Photoshop and can tell you that the former will never allow you to precisely eliminate the vines. There is a "spot removal" tool in Lightroom, but it is what I would term clumsy, and would be capable of doing only a very rough repair on your image.

In photoshop CS6 use lasso tool, click on edit, fill, make sure dialog box says 'content aware', click OK, click on image.Done

Lightroom does have a Spot Removal tool that is basicly a clone and healing brush. It's in the Develope Module. It looks like a circle with an arrow on the side of the circle pointing to the right. That could work, but it would be awkward to use for for removing those branches. It's really meant for removing dust "spots" or small areas.

You might consider Photoshop Elements as a good complement to Lightroom for those times when you need that "little extra" that Lightroom can't do. It's not a huge investment and has some nice features, like the content aware healing brush that would take out those branches in no time.

Thaks to lesdmd for also answering the question that was actually asked. It never ceases to amaze me how many times someone asks a question here and the thread is filled with responses that either completely ignore or don't answer the original question.

Glad you noticed, CanonFire. I will never understand what adding "I don't use that product, have an answer, but . . . "
adds to the conversation.

I can't understand that either lesdmd, why give an answer that has nothing to do with the question?

I will promote photoshop over lightroom every time, unless you have lightrooom 4.3, it has more bugs than a dead carcass(admittedly by Adobe). Many posts are discussed through PM's on this forum,so why don't you two sniveling posters let the owner of this decide whats right or wrong on his thread and move on.

Oh my, a forum bully... I'm shaking! LOL! The poster asked about Lightroom. He asked how to do it in Lightroom not Photoshop. Shove your rudeness where the sun don't shine ftpecktim.

I am very new to Ugly and was given a brief list of photographers to be looked up and admired. ftpecktim, Sinatraman, Tilde, Wendy2, and several others. I have spent countless hours looking at their work and also delighted to see that each and every one of them gave freely there time and skillful answers to all us , in some cases lost causes. I have not seen one case of "Bullying" except from one or two, puffed up self opinionated people who's mouths and brains do not match the skills of needed to be a great human being. I am sorry you bumped into one today. The work you did on the bird in the post was superb in every way. You deserve great Kudos for that, not abuse from another Hedgehogger. I cannot apoloze for his bad behaviour but like all illiterate individuals they don't understand that you apologize when you foul up. I asked another ex Ugly poster why he stopped posting and he said it was not for the hundreds of great members but for the one or two ignorant foul mouthed individuals.

Jim Kim. Keep up the good work ftpecktim!
