I was at a local park & playground with my grandsons Sunday. I truly wanted to capture both the warmth and the cold at the same time along with an expression. In this case he was trying to figure out what he wanted to do next.

Once I knew what I wanted, I had to chase him around without interfering and at the same time keeping in mind the lighting and the background. I usually get one little thing in the background that messes everything up and can not be photoshopped out.

I think I got it.

It would have been nice to have added more light from a reflector, even a piece of tin foil attached to a card about A3 in size

NOT easy, lovely expression

Yes, that would have been nice but extremely difficult to do. Not only was he running around all over, there were gobs of other kids running about also.

I suppose if I were any better at photoshop, I could do something about this. I did see a tutorial on youtube once that did the very thing. Now would be a good time to look it up again. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for looking!

I agree...the lighting is harsh a bit...and the eyes lack some life.

Also...his opposite eye is only partially there...either make it a full profile or let us see both eyes and whites.

As to how to accomplish? Sometimes you can have a person keep a reflector on him while you shoot...it can work.

I read everything that you post. You do three things very well: you can tell an everyday story and make it sound like I am there, you can tell a joke so well that my key board gets a regular soaking and third, you take awesome photos. This one is first class, it belongs on you wall. Well done

HEY PEOPLE LIGHTEN UP, YES I AM SHOUTING. He said he DIDN'T want to interfere. He wanted a candid of an active little boy in the park and show both the warmth of the photo and the cold of the day. If you think you can improve on it ... ask. I guarantee that he will not be angry or take offence.

You don't need to defend him...we aren't trying to drag him down or insult him...he doesn't need protection.

There are things wrong with this photo, if he likes it as is....fine...shoot these all day long...be happy...but if I shot a shot I would be grateful that someone took the time to help me improve.

Beautiful moment captured. Would you mind if I used Smart Photo Editor on it? If you don't have it, it is very easy to use.

I was thinking more like children's chewable Valium.
