Did you see the section in the chart that said "If you know how to use image editing software like Photoshop, you can “cheat” even more by increasing the image size, and even doubling the number of pixels in the image."

That's what I want to learn how to do, increase the image size and double the pixels. How do I do that in Photoshop?

My dtr and future son-in-law, who are both in the Air Force, went to Glacier National Park. They took a picture with a cell phone that they really like and they want to blow it up to poster size 24" x 36" to hang on the wall. Is it possible to enlarge it and enhance it enough to do this? This was their first trip together and has a lot of special memories for them.

I have Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5. Any advice for me? I'd really like to present it to them as a gift on the 2 yr anniversary of when they met which is next month.

Nikon D300 with 14,253 shutter count in excellent condition: sells for around $600 used, $1,800 new

Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack only used once: sells for around $200 used, $250 new

Three Nikon Brand Li-ion EN-EL3e battery packs: sells for around $15 used, $40 new

I have a very sturdy Pelican case that holds 4 CF cards. This case is waterproof and heavy duty. A car can run over it and your cards will still be safe. This is the older version that isn't available any longer. The new version is larger and holds 6 CF cards.

The 4 CF cards cost me $400. They are all Delkin Devices. Two are Delkin Pro 66MB/s 450x (one 16GB & one 32GB). I have two 32GB CF 500x read 75MB/s write 40MB/s. All four cards are UDMA 6.

I also have 4 smaller CF cards.
SanDisk Ultra II 2GB
SanDisk Ultra II 4GB
SanDisk Extreme III 8GB
Lexar Platinum II 4GB

I will include a Pixel Flash USB 3.0 CF card reader.

Remote shutter releases that work and are wireless are hard to find for the D300 for some reason. I have a two piece unit, the receiver plugs into a slot on the front of the camera, then you hold the transmitter in your hand. It works really well. The receiver takes 2 AAA batteries and the transmitter takes an odd battery but I just had it replaced at Batteries Plus, which carries them in stock.

I also have a Blue Crane Digital inBrief quick field reference for your camera bag which folds up small and is very handy to have. Plus I have 2 Nikon D300 books, Digital Field Guide by J. Dennis Thomas and Mastering the Nikon D300 by Darrell Young.

I believe that's all I have that is specific to the Nikon D300 that will not work with my new Nikon D7100. I would like to sell everything together for $1,000. It is all in excellent condition as I take very good care of my stuff.

I don't know how to find out the shutter count. Can someone tell me? It's fairly low. I'm guessing less than 20,000 and probably more like 15,000. I don't take pictures every day or even every week. Mostly just vacations and special occasions.

I haven't done enough research to come up with a fair price. I still need to gather up all the stuff that goes with it. Didn't have a chance to do that today as it was a beautiful day in Kansas City today and I wanted to spend it outside.

I just bought the new Nikon D7100 today and hubby says I need to sell my old Nikon D300. I have the battery pack for it. Need to look through my stuff to see what else I have that isn't going to be compatible with my new camera. I will post pictures and a complete list tomorrow. This is just kind of a heads up.

I live in MO and would be willing to meet within a 100 mile radius of Kansas City or I will ship. Have been a member for a while now. Haven't posted recently but still stop by regularly to read posts. Thanks for reading this post.

So, Sue, was the 18-105 lens auto focus?

Beagleman

Yes, it's an AF-S lens that will auto focus on ANY Nikon camera.

Any thoughts, I have a chance to pick up a Nikon D40 at a low price, I know it's only a 6.1 megapixel camera but I'm a beginner and I'm using a Sony P/S now, what are the pro's and con's of this camera. I do have the camera in my possession now to try it out, I like the feel, very light and the modes...well let's say I'm learning.

I had a Nikon D40 for several years and loved it. It takes very good pictures. Even though it's "only" 6.1MP you can enlarge the pictures up to 11" x 14" and they will still look good. Unless you are going to print pictures larger than this, 6.1 MP is all you really need. I love that's it's so light and small. It's a fun camera to shoot with.

I upgraded to a Nikon D300 and found I still preferred to shoot with the D40 because it was so easy to use, small and light. I finally ended up giving the D40 to my daughter to force myself to learn and use the D300!

Of course it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive cameras but most likely this camera will be more than adequate unless you are an advanced user. I'm a firm believer that it's the photographer, lens, and photo editing software and not so much the camera that produces great pictures. I actually don't think my pictures are any better with the D300 than they were with the D40.

I didn't care too much for the 18-55mm kit lens so I upgraded to an 18-105mm lens and it was a great walking around lens for me. The weight of it felt pretty well balanced on the camera. I tried a heavier lens (18-200mm) and it felt front heavy and not well balanced on the camera. This camera does not have the built in motor to auto focus some lenses. You need to make sure you only get AF-S lenses so they will auto focus on this camera. That means the popular 50mm f/1.8 lens will not auto focus on the D40. You can manually focus this lens, but if you're over 40 your vision probably isn't good enough to do manual focus....at least mine weren't!!!

The one thing I do like better about the D300 is that it has a lot of controls on the outside of the camera so it is easier to make changes to the settings.

I've seen several Nikon D40's on Craigslist (in the Midwest) in the $200-$250 range so I wouldn't pay any more than this for the body.

We were there a few weeks ago. I used a Singh-Ray vary-n-duo and a 3 stop reverse ND grad to get this sunset shot of Cannon Beach with Haystack Rock.

Very nice. We'll be in Yachats next Wed. Hopefully we can find this covered bridge if we have time. Thanks for sharing.

We managed to find the bridge. I took several bracketed shots from the other side of the bridge than you did. I merged them into an HDR image and used the content aware fill to remove the sign in front of the bridge that was so distracting.

why does this look so much darker after I uploaded it???

This is a yearly event held in Independence, Missouri over the Labor Day weekend. It is where the 3 westward trail began, the Santa Fe trail, the California trail, and the Oregon trail. A friend and I took pictures of some of the lighted spinning rides at the carnival after dark. Practicing long exposures for light trails. It was a learning experience.

I read online about a professional photographer who got around this problem of shooting 10,000 pictures then having the numbers start over again on his D300. Under the shooting menu go to file naming. Change the DSC to something more meaningful. For example, my initials are SM. I use 1SM for the first 10,000 pictures, 2SM for the next 10,000 pictures and so on. That way none of the pictures have the exact same name. This also has an added benefit if there is more than one photographer in the family. If everyone puts their initials in the file name on their camera, you will always be able to tell who took the picture.

Beautiful shots. We were there about 6 wks ago & had such a great time. It's a gorgeous park. Which lake is it in the second to last picture? I just love the bright green water.
