You're right. IBIS is something they say they are bringing out in the new EOSRP next year. For the most part all my EFL lenses have IS so its not a real issue and I have several heavy duty tripods but I get what you say and I think I'll pass on the fd and use my sigma until I can get a second mortgage and buy the canon 600 mm. And it is a shame that we try to have a civilized exchange of ideas on this forum only to be interrupted by the clinically insane and unstable.

I started out with an asahi pentax back in the 70's so I'm pretty well versed on manual photography. I think I still have a light meter in my kit. Thanks for the advise.

I have the sigma already just wondering what your collective thoughts are on the viability of the FD 500mm prime. I am going on a shoot in the Great Bear Rainforest of B.C. Looking for the white spirit bear. I'm taking a 5d and the new EOS R. The ef 600 is just about as much money as the trip itself. What are your thoughts on these two lenses. I can pick up the fd 500 for 1000.00

This may have been debated ad noseum here but I just watched a "so called" professional wildlife photographer extolling the virtues of his Canon 7D over his 5D explaining to all of us peons that his 7d, because it is a crop sensor, gives him more REACH.
Well I am a professional photographer and have been since the first slr's came out. I have yet to see a 200 mm or a 400 mm lens magically transform into a 320mm or a 640 mm lens.
You DO NOT get more reach. You merely get a smaller FOV (field of view) from a crop sensor using full frame, (based on old 35 mm film) lens. The frame or picture is effectively cropped. You do not get more magnification. It only appears closer because the picture has been cropped down in the sensor.

Very well shot! Alaska is a a stunningly beautiful place. I'm just south in BC and its very similar to Alaska. Looks like home and you have shown it well. I like the snow caps gives a better feeling of place. There is a grizzly bear photo tour near me in Campbell River across the strait to kings inlet. Not too expensive 3 days for 1000.00 canadian or 25 dollars US. Close to seattle and environs'. I would love to go to alaska and take grizzly (Brown) shots (with my camera). Do you know of any reasonable tours.

Any of you canon 5d Mk 11,111,IV or 6d and 1D owners give me your thoughts on my dilema, My new EOS R is supposed to be arriving on tuesday (Very excited) I sold my 5d mk 11 with a 24-70 f2.8 lens as this one comes with a 24-105 f4 lens in the kit. As this camera is mirrorless, the final lens element is slightly closer to the sensor. This, they say, gives the f4 the equivalent to and f2.8. Don't know if I buy this or not. However what is your general consesus on the difference, if any of these two lenses.

I can only wait!
Going on a wildlife shoot in the Interior of B.C. to an old Gold Mining town called Likely with real ghost towns and ghosts. Lots of Moose, Deer and black and grizzly bears in the area. I have Three canadian magazines lining up for the article and photos. So the new camera will get a good work out! Not interested in the video capabilities. so that doesn't bother me. I don't do sports so the ibis is not too important. All my glass has is. As for the single sd slot this argument is a non starter considering the speed and size of the new sd cards.
