I people watched and car watched. However, too early in the morning so we recorded it and zipped through all the talking heads and saved a lot of time. Also, that big expanse of green, so perfectly manicured, at Windsor Castle....perfect spot for a chip shot.

That area is called The Quadrangle or Quad for short. No need for chip shotting there as there is a golf course on the other side of the building. It used to be a herb garden back in the dark ages. It was specially planted so that the scent
of the herbs would permeate into the surrounding building and hopefully 'drown out' the body odour of the residents. Hygenic washing was not high on their must do lists.

Forget the BBC, any one with an iota of sense doesn't take any notice of their biased ramblings. The BBC was set up to be an impartial broadcasting service which it has failed to be for decades now. The totally biased reporting on anything that smacks of 'Brexit' should have had them closed down immediately. Unfortunately the BBC is now staffed and governed by people who refuse to deal with anything that does not fit their left wing agenda or may have a slightly negative effect on their own personal circumstances, and don't get me started on their inflated wages. Most of them would struggle to earn a living outside of their own personal tax funded bubble.

Having lived through the change in the UK there are merits to both systems . However it was amazing to find that all the manufacturers, shopkeepers and suppliers could never convert their prices without rounding up to the nearest decimal equivalent. I never once found a price that had been rounded down. I actually feel sorry for the 35 - 40 year olds who were taught metric at school and then entered the working place where the majority of work was still carried out in pre metric denominations. My son was taught the metric system at school and then started a plumbing apprenticeship where it was all feet and inches. He hadn't a clue for a few weeks but quickly 'got used' to the way things worked. We all adapt quickly when it is necessary.

Hi Graham,
Nice pictures of Yorkshire, been there many times and always enjoyed the scenery and the people. I even still think that the last 'Yorkist' King (Richard 111) was one of the better monarchs that England had. He just had very bad press.
However you do seem to have missed the most important reasons for Yorkshire.............a very large buffer, along with Northumberland, between civilisation and the Scots!

Great cartoons all! I love the mailman and the reindeer. Where do you find these things?

The 'mailman' is in fact a traffic warden who has just ticketed the sleigh. They shouldn't be confused
Mailmen .........like
Traffic Wardens............dislike.
Humorous in this context but we have had them ticketing ambulances and fire engines when dealing with emergency calls. They are not known for their sense of humour but are probably deemed necessary allowing for some of the idiots who get behind the wheel of a car.

Better than John Lewis's advert this year Graham and better than some of the so called entertainment programmes currently being put out by all the companies. Best of luck for Christmas and the new year from all us softie southern hogs.

Those were the days where sentences were constructed without the words 'like' and 'ya know' thrown in at every conceivable opportunity.

I remember doing things like that as well John, but there were rules of etiquette that were applied by our parents that seem to have been forgotten. Fireworks were never set off on a Sunday as I remember, they were not pushed through letterboxes and were never thrown at each other. A trip to any A&E these days will show the results of todays attitudes to fireworks. As an aside how did we all survive those charcoaled spuds? Scalding hot potato inside a solid quarter inch of black coal skin washed down with Tizer or Cream Soda.......that was living!

I'm with you Doddy, fireworks should only be sold for organised shows with the time being regulated so that they are all over and done with at the same time. Now thanks to our 'multiculturalism' they are used for everything from Diwali to new year to uncle Berts 100th birthday and assorted foreign celebrations the origins of which I have no idea. They seem to go on for months.

They were Soap Boxes in West London in the 50's as the deluxe models were made with a 'body' made from a wooden box made to carry bars of either 'Sunlight' or 'Pears' soap if I remember correctly. Like Remus the odd concussion and a few stitches were par for the course and the driver had the added bonus of bruised back/kidneys from the box edge. Happy days!

Jellied eels are only used as punishment nowadays!

Doesn't that impinge on human rights, does Amnesty International know about this. Surely jellied eels should be regarded as a diet staple? Thanks for the warning about tripe and onions by the way, although I have not seen tripe on the butchers counter for decades. Not sure if it would be recognised by the majority of shoppers in our supermarket as an edible substance.

I have the opposite problem. If she's driving, I usually have her pull over & let me out so I can run on ahead & let everyone know were coming.

We used to do something similar on our railways, with a man running ahead waving a red flag. The speed of commuter trains hasn't improved much since. Regarding my wife's speeding she aims to reach the speed of 'dark' as it is always there before the light.

Please send as many as possible and as soon as possible. They are lovely roasted or braised and it means that in Dorset we won't have to eat babies like you uncivilised heathens in the North! I would like to join your demo but I have to attend a meeting regarding the importation of Lardy And Pontefract cakes into Wessex, look out for the forthcoming riots if importation licences are granted.
