Hi Linda, welcome to UHH. It does not sound like you are one who gets discouraged by negative influences. I love the bear. You have a great sense of humour and that explains your attitude. My advice in general, practice so that you get to know your camera to the degree that you don't have to think when you go to take a shot. Experiment with the same scene so that you learn the effects of different settings on the result. For a different perspective "go low or go high". That is, crouch down low or get up on a ladder or a hill. And by all means don't be afraid to ask questions. Even just lurking here and reading advice given to others is a great way to learn and also to get ideas and inspiration for your own photographs.

Nice photographs. Great detail. Sometimes haze is not such a bad thing. You are very lucky that the bird lost it's way. Thank you for posting.

Welcome to the hog. I shoot with Pentax, for about ten years now. Just upgraded my K-r to a new K-70. Before that I had a K-100. I have some older manual lenses, a Makinon 135mm F2.0 that takes spectacular macros, and a Pentax 500mm that is too heavy to take out much. I'm using a Sigma 18-250mm zoom for day to day and also a Tokina 400mm prime that I just got on EBay. I also have a Sigma 120-400mm that I will be putting up for sale soon.

It's worth noting that with any APS-C models like my K-70 that film and full-frame digital lenses are effectively bigger than their size. ie. my 400mm Tokina is effectively 600mm with my K-70 body. It would be 400mm when used with the new K-1 full frame body.

If you have any questions about Pentax cameras feel free to buzz me. I'm more than happy to help out a fellow enthusiast.

Thinking of a new camera body to take the place of my Pentax K-r and this new model has some pretty cool features. It looks like it would be a big improvement over my current body. Has anyone here had a look at it? Anyone using it? I'm sticking with Pentax due to my investment in lenses.

Thanks in advance to any and all responses.

Cheers,

Slim

You could probably do something nice with #2 if you cropped it close to a portrait orientation.

Thanks Slim Dude. I sat for 20 minutes and the Eagle did nothing but look around. Then BOOM, the action was there

I've been reading about how there's been an amazing irruption of snowy owls further south in the eastern US this winter, especially.

Of course, where you are, Slim, you probably get these magnificent owls every winter.

I have never seen one before. Friends are all remarking the same thing. Note that our latitude is about the same as Oregon.

Had an opportunity to photograph one of these magnificent birds on Sunday near Niagara on the Lake, Ontario.
