I am out and about alot but don't always have my camera so has anyone tried a monocular for their phone and what did you think? Not looking for "award-winning" shot but I have enough wildlife/bird shots I would like to grab.

Thanks - add to it about 8 chipmunks and 5 deer and a couple of Reticulated Woodpeckers along with the occasional turkey, skunks, possums and my wildlife shoots are close by - lol

I use the Audubon app for Android....can look up birds quickly by many various ways from sound to look. Quick, easy to use and it was free when I downloaded it. Almost always have my phone so I can check it add where I saw it.

Jeep Daddy's comments and edit in your Analysis topic discussed the white balance issue + showed you the value of cropping close - to both eliminate the harsh sky and to make the swallow the star.

My edit is to show you how the image was adjusted in PS Elements raw editor (a modified version of PS ACR). If you even out the exposure and don't sharpen while in the raw editor, you can make selective adjustments in your main editor after you decide on where to crop.

How much editing you can do, or are willing to do, is dependent on your skill level and interest in learning post processing.

Hope you'll visit with us again; all the best in your journey.

It's really not a very good photo to start with. I'm not knocking your photo based on your skill, but simply on the way the sky is on this day, the light, how close you are, no catch light in the eye of the bird, not as sharp as a wildlife photo can and should be etc....

But I've opened it up, used some basics in ACR, cropped it, and saved as a jpg to upload here. I've done nothing much other than crop and hit auto in ACR.

Actually, after posting my first attempt, I decided that the white balance is way off. It shouldn't be that purple or blue. So I took the white balance dropper and touched the white breast of the Tree Swallow and wala. Much better color.

#2 does look better. Hard to get as they were constantly landing/taking off so as soon as it sat I shot it. Appreciate the comments.

Would appreciate any help making this photo pop some more....cloudy day, shot hand-held at 30 ft or so. Seems to be a problem of mine that skies always look washed out. Don't know if it's my eyes or my skills? Canon 60D with a Tamron 18 - 400 lens.

Have to claim stupidity here - I looked but don't see that category. Where do I find it? Thanks

I like this photo but it was a cloudy day - what can I do to make the photo pop a little more and the sky not look so washed out? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
