TchrBill, you have once again baffled us with more Bull----!
Please point out any helpful posts you have contributed to this forum.

In the meantime, I agree with Richard. Too many posts on UH deteriorate into a long list of drivel. There are good, helpful and knowledgeable people who contribute but there are too many who act as if they are in a contest over who can post the most worthless messages (in number and content). I've complained several times about what goes on too often in this forum but I guess the moderators haven't liked my complaints because they have been deleted.

Slim filters are appropriate for wide angle lenses, but not needed for polarizers - the sky will not look right for anything shorter than a normal lens.

Unless you intend to use the polarizer a lot or in adverse conditions or on an expensive lens, there is not much point in spending a lot for a premium filter – Tiffen should be fine.

Finally, if you want to do something to stop whaling, send some money to Greenpeace like I have for the past 40 years. Boycotting Japanese products will make a bigger impact on you than it will on Japan or Nikon.

Polarizers are useful for many things other than making blue skies dark, cutting reflections is one

. . . . in an open forum like this, people are going to feel that it is not only their right but, their duty, to agree or disagree.

As to the first sentence, you just did. As to the latter, it might be their right but certainly not their duty to agree or disagree on this forum. After all, UH is supposed to be a photography forum.

I've noticed it isn't unusual for things to get off the subject of the original post in UH. I don't think Richard - Sports ever said we all had to support the cause he does in the way he does. If he had simply asked, "Who makes good filters other than Japan?" we would all have been asking, "why not Japan?"

I like the color version with the garage doors cropped off. I guess I would ask, What did you want as the subject of your photo? If you are trying to show all the tools used to restore the car and including the car to show what was restored then it might have been better to have shown the partially restored car in the garage to connect the two as you did with the during restoration photo. And enhancing the color of the car IMHO detracts from the photo somewhat because it makes the car stand out as the subject too much. The back end of he car isn't the best view. Perhaps turn the car around and then take the same photo. Basically, it is an interesting photo of tools and a car in a garage. I see nothing wrong with using HDR to make sure everything shows up in a dark garage. Just my opinion.

Richard, Just reading through this and wondering if anyone ever answered your question. (some did) I just went through choosing a circular polarazier, plus some ND filters and the choices and understanding it all was difficult even without your limits. I learned a few things: Circular and not linear for digital cameras. The higher priced filters usually have fewer color problems (don't cause color casts in the photo that need to be corrected by software). Thin usually means they don't have threads on the front side for attaching another screw on filter, like a ND filter, to the front of the polarizer. I have a friend who is a pro photographer and uses the less expensive polarizers and corrects color in photoshop. I ended up buying a nikon polarizer from B&H - which doesn't help answer your question either.

Snowbear- Am I not understanding. In what you wrote where does Capture NX come in. I'm curious about how Capture NX handles nef files since it seems it can save as another NEF file, separate from the original, after adjustments are made.

BboH - So whatever adjustments are made are saved and if you close the software and reopen it the photo with those adjustments is shown? or is the unmodified raw file shown without the adjustments made earlier.

Guess I may try the free trial and play around with it. Thanks for your replies to my question.

I've had the 70-200 VRI version since 2005. I paid $1599.95 new at B&H. I've Taken thousands of photos with this lens on four different cameras everything from portraits to athletic events and horse shows. I do think the price you mentioned is too high. Maybe not. This lens is hard to find used or refurbished. You should look at KEH Camera. Their price is similar to what you quoted but I believe they have a 6 month warranty.

Reference the topic Resolution Issues, May 5, 12 10:37:54 page 2. I haven't used Capture NX in years but have been looking at it again. The discussion referenced above seems to indicate that you can import an NEF file work on it, save it as a NEF file and then go back to the original NEF file and start over again to make different changes. Is that how it works? Is it actually saving what you have done as an NEF file? Can you go back to it later and continue to work on it again after saving it or do you have to always go back to the original NEF file and start over?

I will probably download and try Capture NX but thought if of someone using it you could answer my questions and that might be quicker.

Yes, there is one person who evidently is well known for doing nothing but berating and calling people names and insults for no reason. He tried to get into it with me a few days ago and I just kept telling him I wasn't going to play his game and he called me all kinds of names and insults. I never heard of this person and got pvt msgs' from people saying they've had the same problems with him-that all he does is create arguments or at least try to and is very rude to everyone. I reported him several times to admin but don't know what if anything happened. I know people argue over politics and a lot of other things but when someone posts a photo or whatever coming back with ''what a stupid picture A**'' is way out of line and unnecessary. In my opinion these forums as I said are for a shared mutual interest in photography and critique is always welcome we know. But rude, foul mouthed language and insults here are unacceptable. As far as I'm concerned if you don't have something nice to say then keep your mouth shut! Now that being said, critique and constructive critcism is a different story...

The Report Issue button works. At least it did in my case. I probably got a little carried away about people who post hundreds of messages but say nothing helpful and that message was removed. Probably rightfully so. I guess it's count to ten or sleep on it before writing something you may regret later.

My first pet peeve message was deleted. Too controversial I guess or I wasn't nice enough in the way I said it. UHH is an interesting and informative site with a lot of knowledgeable people providing lots of good information. My pet peeve is those few who post message after message that has nothing to do with the subject of the original topic or a question related to the original topic. Some of those have been members for a short time but have posted hundreds of messages.

"Main Photography Discussion This is where we talk about anything related to photography." Would that it were true. I notice there is also a gossip section where this probably should be posted. It is disappointing that there is a lot of good information on UHH that is helpful to photographers, but you have to filter through all the gossip information to find it. In the middle of learning something about how to improve your photography someone will start posting about how grandma lost her false teeth. One person fell down 15 flights of stairs. I'm more interested in how anyone could fall down fifteen flights of stairs than in how long it took Sony to fix his camera. Another person posts about 15 times that he is old and still learning. Aren't we all! And other similar, oft repeated messages that add nothing to knowledge about photography. It is interesting to see how many posts some people have made. When I see where someone has been a member for 6 months and have posted over 2,000 messages I wonder when they ever have time to take photos since they must spend all their time writing about grandma's teeth.

Sorry everyone, there is some good info in with the gossip but . . .

So now inundate me with unwanted replies.

I am currently using Photoshop CS5 and a Nikon D3S camera. I shoot my pictures in .NEF or the Nikon RAW format. When I open a picture in Adobe Bridge and save them to .JPG format they always save at a 240dpi. Does anyone know how I can save them as 300dpi as a default so I don't have to change each one individually? I don't really know if it's a camera setting or an Adobe setting I should be looking at.

As to the original question about saving to 300 dpi, I believe it was answered - click on the line to the right of the Save Image... button. in the Workflow Options box, where it says Resolution, change it to 300, click OK. Whatever resolution you enter becomes the default until you change it.
