I have the G7x (mkii) and I'm very happy with it. I did the same as you and spent a long time comparing between the Canon, Sony and Panasonic options. The G7 brought price and features together for me.

Having a camera that goes with me all the time has been a long-standing goal. I never fully realized it during the film era. When digital arrived I ran through a series of shirt-pocket compacts (Sony WS type) but was never happy as they each eventually screwed me unable to capture a raw file. Eventually I gave up on the shirt-pocket for a jacket-pocket that could save a raw file. The Canon G7 is my latest iteration of that camera and it is my main camera. My main camera is the camera I use the most and that's the G7. I use it almost daily.

A downside is what it does to your other cameras. The G7 is so convenient and always right there on my desk and generally it's up to the task so the other cameras get neglected. Then when you do get out the big guns your wife says, "What's that camera? Have I seen that camera? What did that one cost?"

As wise people say, the very best camera in the world is the one you have with you at the time

As another poster suggested, add ram from a 3D party supplier. Doing so is very easy. You can also use software like Parallels to run all your windows programs. The thing about a Mac? Bring it home. Plug it in. Turn it on. You’re up and running. (From someone who’s been a Mac user since Apple was doomed)

Plus, consider Apple Care. It gets your warranty to three years, during all of which time you have 24-7 phone support for anything Mac-related. Even your software.

I’ve been a Mac user since Apple was doomed. If you decide to go with the iMac, spend the extra money and get the
27 inch model. The 21 inch one doesn’t allow for ram upgrades after purchase; the 27 inch model does

Try this web site.

https://williambeem.com/aperture-to-lightroom-migration-guide/

Be sure you understand how Aperture is managing your photos: referenced or managed. If referenced, the photos are sitting on a HD somewhere and Aperture is functioning in a way that’s similar to Lightroom’s catalogue system. If managed, the photos reside inside the vault.

The web site above talks about how whether your library is referenced or managed affects the transfer process.

If you’ve been using the managed method, it’s important to understand the Lightroom catalogue system. Otherwise, as did I, you’ll wind up with a true mess on your hands. So, another resource I highly recommend is Rob Sylvan’s “Taming Your Photos with Adobe Lightroom”. I cannot tell you how I WISH I’d read it before transferring all my photos, many of which I still cannot locate

Thanks for the reply. I do use an iPhone, iwatch, and iPad. The few times I've used my wife's Macbook, I keep wanting to do a right mouse click, that doesn't seem to be part of osx, so it would take some getting used too.

On the track pad, click with two fingers. =Right click.

I have a 2019 IMac 27" I5 with a 2TB fusion drive and 40GB RAM. I seem to have a longer than expected delay in going from LR Classic to PS 2019, both updated to latest versions. Also, delays when using some bruh functions. I can purchase 2X 16GB to replace the 2X 8GB and have a total of 64GB. I have already replace two slots with 2x 16GB. The cost of this is approximately $200.00, and I can install this myself.
I have a 2TB fusion drive. To replace this with a 2TB SSD would cost approximately $300.00 and whatever is the cost to have a pro install it. I will not attempt to do this myself! Is there a possibility that I do not have the "fusion" portion of the drive appropriately set up for this handoff between the two programs?
My goal is to get more performance, at least preceived performance, in LR and PS.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have an older iMac with only 8gb of ram. Switched out the 1TB HD for a 500 gig SSD. It was like buying a brand new computer. The Lightroom speed increase was reminiscent of transitioning from dial up to cable

If 40G ram isn’t doing it, ram is not the problem. SSD will solve it, I promise.

I just can't understand people's rigid devotion to paper sizes. Photos can be printed at any aspect ratio, and if something is to be framed, it should be surrounded by a decent sized matte, no one wants to see an 8x10 print in and 8x10 frame.

And if you're so cheap that you have an overwhelming need to use the entire piece of paper you paid for, Well, simply crop.

Before retirement, I shot for reproduction in printed pieces. There was no relation between the size of the paper and the size of the photo. The big driver was the amount of text. So I often shot a bit loose to give myself some flexibility in the page layout.

I agree with Dngallagher. When I was using Aperture, I used it’s managed library feature. For me, making the transition to Lightroom, it was the referenced library feature and how the catalogue knows (or doesn’t know) where to find them that I struggled most with. That’s a struggle I’ve now won. Your photos are where you put them. “Taming Your Photo Library With Adobe Lightroom ” by Rob Sylvan was key to my winning that struggle. I highly recommend it

My recommendation is to find a tutorial on the Lightroom catalogue before getting too far into what Lightroom can do for editing
