That number refers to the maximum aperture.
Back in the late 90's, there was a company called Silicon Film that made a film canister that brought digital imaging to Nikon F3's. They we're never able successfully capitalize on it however. They never got the resolution to even 2mg, to my knowledge and the multiplication factor was about 4x, so it only captured the very middle of the frame. Cameras kept getting better and better and cheaper and cheaper.
The first digital SLR I ever saw was I the early 9o's and it was a collaboration between Kodak and Nikon. It was based on a F3, was 5 mg, had a magnification fact of 2, you had to wear a shoe box that held the battery and HD, and it cost 45k body only.
Wish you good luck, MT. What is aggravating is that local camera stores aren't that much more expensive than legitimate mail order, if at all. Myself, even 10% is worth the difference to buy local. I realize that not everyone agrees with me on that, though.
A 20d is pretty long in the tooth. Is the shutter opening? Try taking the lens off and activating the cleaning function.
Kodak invented the digital camera in 1974, a bit before the Sony Mavica. The camera weighed 8 pounds, was the size of a toaster and was .1 megapixel. It also cost around a million dollars. It was black and white and achieved color by using 8 filters. Time magazine printed color pictures of Saturn back in the late 70's using this technology.
Here in Springfield, we have the Rt 66 Mother Road Festival coming up. Will have close to 1,000 cars entered. It runs from Sept 27-29. I always have a good time there.
I got one for $400 with a $200 rebate. The $300 rebate is when you buy a 50-pack of 13x19 paper. Oh, I did buy the paper since it was effectively free.

Is there anyone left in that area to fix cameras$
Not closer than St. Louis.
Irv Hill, a friend and camera technician for over 45 years has announced his retirement. Some of you on here know Irv, so if you want to wish him a happy retirement, it would be a good time. Irv has been fixing cameras is Springfield and Central Illinois and will be missed. Irv has always been an honest person and would always tell you whether something was worth fixing. He plans to spend his time fishing. He said his business is about 10% of what it once was.
My ex-wife had one cut on the London metro some years ago. Didn't realize the camera was gone until she reached for the camera to take a picture. I wasn't there , but my kids told me about it.
Have you tried an anti-prespirent? It helps with sweaty palms.
As stars above, Kodak cameras have internal memory. Plug that USB cord and camera into the computer and see if it pops up on your desktop. If not, you may have to download the Kodak Easy Share software. But try it first without it. I worked for Kodak and hated their software.
I believe this lens should also include a lens hood. At least mine did.
You used to be able to get silver and gold colored ink-jet photo paper. It is probably still out there somewhere.
Some of these are for security purposes, but some have to do with copyright issues. You have 't been able to bring DSLR's to concerts for years.
